I was able to push the plug into the outlet once, took it out to adjust, and can’t push it back in. I tried with and without the outlets powered. Any idea what’s going on with it? I can plug the same plug into the console outlet without trouble.

Also, I know the fat prong goes on the left but I wanted to show both directions in the attached video so if I submit to Rivian service the plug direction isn’t called into question.

I was trying to set up the lights on top of the car for Christmas :(

Like a TR outlet, wiggle side to side, not up and down.

If that doesn't work, try hitting it with your purse.

I had a mobile tech come and look at it. His answer was that on Gen 2s you MUST use a three pronged.

I pointed out that we use a 2 pronged plug all the time in the outlet by the console. He tried to convince me that the rear is how it was supposed to be and that he double checked with his manager. I prodded and he ultimately said that he would ask his manager about replacing the panel there, but TBD on that.

Does a three prong work in that outlet? If yes, easy workaround would be one of these.

Well that's just a ridiculous answer. If the two prong won't go in, then the three prong will have the same problem. Did the tech try it with a 3-prong and show you it worked? I highly doubt it. I've never ever heard of an outlet that would deliberately *prevent* a 2-prong plug from being plugged in.

I would say this is almost certainly a physically broken outlet which needs to be replaced. There is almost nothing you could have done that would cause this to happen (I assume you didn't stick a screwdriver into the slot and twist it back and forth...), so it should absolutely be a warranty repair.

Inside an outlet there are metal pieces that both make electrical contact with the plug pins and squeeze the plug pins to hold the plug in place. It sounds to me like the first time you plugged something in those metal pieces got pushed in and/or bent so that they are now preventing another plug to be plugged in.

Following up my last post. Rivian contacted me a day or two after the last visit and said they would replace the outlet. Tech came back and replaced it with one that works properly in <10 minutes. No cost to me.

I once had an office in an old lock down psychiatric ward, and I typically had to call Facilities for help plugging into outlets. Until they tried to insert plugs, they thought I was…

This probably doesn’t apply to OP.
