That's not just going to be isolated to Rivian. These tariffs are going to raise the price for all US manufacturer (GM, Ford, Stellantis Rivian, Tesla) vehicles, with Tesla in line for 100% increases.
No, of course others will be affected. However some manufacturers do produce in Canada and larger players can more easily get through this stretch vs an unprofitable startup.

I looked at those lists this morning and electric vehicles were on there.

Reuters is reporting EVs included: https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canadas-plan-retaliatory-tariffs-us-2025-03-04/

SECOND TRANCHE
The Canadian government will be consulting with the public and stakeholders for a second tranche of retaliatory tariffs. These will include a wide range of products imported from the U.S. such as passenger vehicles and trucks, electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products, fruits and vegetables, aerospace products, beef, pork and dairy.
I searched both lists again, and can't find any key term for Electric Vehicles, or vehicles or trucks that pertains to passenger vehicles. I used their in built search as well as my browsers. It only returned positives for commercial vehicles like tow trucks, delivery vehicles etc.

Anyway I'm likely wrong, and it sucks all around for both sides.

NAFTA - Rips it up, imposes tariffs, then capitulates due to economic problems with a new USMCA agreement. Hails it as the best thing ever.

Rips up USMCA and imposes tariffs on Can Mex because they've been taking advantage of US for far too long under guy with the B at the start of his last name, but not the guy that negotiated the agreement in the first place.

It's hard not to talk about all this without starting a P-O-L-I-T-I-C-A-L debate. Something frowned upon in the forums.
Yep - personally, aside from the price of goods going up,

I think it would be better to be small and nimble.
R1S and R1T are basically luxury vehicle purchases for niche buyers here in Canada sold in only two provinces (that I know of) ... BC and Ontario. Those that want one, will pay for it, regardless of the price increases.

The big automakers ... GM, Ford and Stellantis ... are the ones who are going to get hit hard. Try to explain to a consumer why an economy small or mid-sized SUV costs north of 50K now.

The thing that will really affect Rivian's sales right now is if these tariffs trigger a recession in Canada (or North America).

I have 183s... which are not long... but let's get real, the bed is too short
My 184s fit (but none of my XC skis do). But yeah, I do wish the bed were 6-12" longer. Having said that, the pros outweight the cons and I'm happy I have mine.

Edit: I see a few other folks answered this original comment too. Some added colour: I have gone touring with my family of 4 up to Kootenay Pass etc and had all of our skis under the tonneau (closed!), packs, boots, blah blah. It works but isn't ideal. When I was travelling last year all over the province for XC races, I did have to mount my ski box on the truck for the skis, but the wax bench, wax supplies, tent etc all fit in the truck bed, with the 3-4 people worth of personal gear in the frunk and gear tunnel.

Last summer we towed trailer, had 4 bikes, SUPs on the roof and did a trip out to Whistler for Crankworx in July and into Alberta in August. I have two teens (one 6', the other growing and 5'5'). It is snug at times, but much better than when we tried to car camp with our Model 3!

I probably have a few photos of the above somewhere on my Insta account (same name/handle) if you want an idea of what that looks like. I'm so behind on posts I want to make on my blog that this kind of stuff isn't up there yet. But, I do have posts around efficiency with ski box, bikes, etc if you are interested in that. Ping me if you want more deets.

Hi thanks very much for the info. Good to hear you can do all of that... yes myself in a Model 3 I know how tight things get with sports equipment, people, and camping gear!

I'm not sure I agree. If you add the recent $7k-$10k price hike then a 25% tariff on top of that you are looking at an after-tax price of $250K for a tri motor. There are luxury buyers that might spend that type of money but the average person won't.

So incredibly not true. I only followed through with my purchase because I had the early reservation discount with the early deliveries. If they didn’t hold early pricing I would have bailed. I had budgeted for a particular number, and when it was about to go up noticeably I was ready to sadly cancel. Fortunately for me, they really stepped up to the plate and earned my loyalty. It’s an incredible vehicle, but very few people can pay whatever they want for a new car/truck. Everyone has a top line, and they’re all different.

I don't see anyone buying a new vehicle in any price range that's been hit by a tariff while this shit show ensues.

Not only are you contending with the off the lot depreciation, but as soon as the tariff is lifted, a further 25% hit. It makes zero sense even if you're okay with setting fire to your bank account.

Fortunately, Canada is a small (but mighty ?) market for Rivian currently. But, with the addition of R2 and other more budget friendly models, if this drags out and reciprocal tariffs are imposed against US made products from others around the world, it could really, pardon the language, fuck with a lot of things.

This should be a class.
How to undo the the efforts over the last few years to curb inflation with a few pen strokes.

Given that Canadians have been canceling their USA March break vacations en masse, I would imagine they are also reconsidering what vehicle they purchase. Regardless of costs.

I don't think Rivian needs Canadian sales to survive but if they accounted for 10%, it would definitely hurt.

The problem with this being too protracted is that it could take an equally long time to wear off. The money is with the baby boomers and they have long memories for the most part.

I'd like to know what Rivian is doing to protest the tariffs.

Edit: From CBC News:

After Trump got a phone call from concerned American carmakers this morning, he moved to exempt autos from his tariffs until at least April — a sign that the White House is willing to make critical policy decisions on the fly.

I did a quick calculation on a Tri R1T that is currently in the shop. Price before the Canadian price hike with the current discount offer VS what it may cost after price hike, without the discount, and a tariff on top. This is for a sale in BC with the escalating PST (bumps up 5% at $150k). Delta is nearly $80k for the same truck a few weeks apart. No thanks, not spending that.
