Let me start off by saying I don’t often use ChargePoint, but I do have the app and I’ve had my vehicle for over a year.

I pulled into the ChargePoint and plugged in. It registered as charging but the Rivian showed it as stopped. I Went to pull the charger out but it wouldn’t release.

I went to the app and it said it was still charging so I pressed the stop charging button a few times and it would register as the charging had stopped, but once I hit the OK button, it still showed my vehicle charging.

I called the ChargePoint helpdesk listed on the charger and got a very helpful gentleman from India with a very thick accent that was a little bit difficult to understand, but after half an hour of him having me lock and unlock my doors three times quickly than five times by quickly nothing changed.

he could not get the charger to register as stopped.. and it definitely wasn’t charging my vehicle. He attempted reset the ChargePoint charger twice and reboot it, but the phone app still kept saying charging.

in the end, I use the emergency release cable to pull out which he was worried was gonna hurt his ChargePoint but after standing outside and 97° heat for half an hour I had lost my patience on that one. The Rivian knew it wasn’t charging so I wasn’t really worried about that.

that actually worked and released the charger but my ChargePoint app still thinks it’s charging but there is no cost being added.

for all the complaints about EA I haven’t had an issue but this will ensure that unless ChargePoint is the only station available, I’ll still to the devil I know.

I’ll know the follow on questions…..

It was only one time, it was an isolated incident, I know you have used chargerpoint 1000 times with no errors and everytime you use EA if catches you R1S on fire but this was my experience today.

Once the sweat stops dripping off my ass I will probably not hate ChargePoint as much as I do right now but that’s my vent for the day

Ive used Chargepoint and EA and both have worked ok for me for the most part.

Sounds like the charger faulted out on you somehow, this could happen with any charger even a Tesla or Rivian charger. It just doesn't happen often and it's great we have an emergency release on the Rivian for these rare events.

I would also note that Chargepoint isn't a network like EA, Tesla, EVGO, RAN etc. They sell hardware, service contracts etc to local owners. Ultimately this could be on the owner for not properly maintaining their equipment but that would depend on their contract with Chargepoint.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

If you open your frunk and pull back the plastic on the right hand side(drivers) you’ll see a small cable you VERY GENTLY pull and it manually unlocks the charger

Sorry for your trouble, and thank you for reminding us where emergency release cables are. I might add a painter's tape note next to the emergency cut warning.

That's what the vented seats are for! ??
