Hello,

I tried doing some research on the forums to see if others had this issue, and while some did, I never saw any resolution posted in other threads. Some background info. I've been charging my 22 R1T LE with the mobile charger on a 240v plus using the mobile charger provided by Rivian for 2 years now. We use this charger to charge my R1T and my wife's Mach E. No issues charging both, until recently. Edit: My wife's Mach E chargers normally with the Rivian charger. Only my R1T is impacted by the slowed rate.

My truck will drop down to 1 mi/hr being added, instead of the normal 12-14 mi/hr charging rate. I've attached a few photos to show my latest charging sessions. Thinking it was an issue with my Rivian charger, I plugged in my wife's Ford mobile charger and received the same result, 1 mi/hr charging. The Mach E was charged on Saturday night with no issues and charged at its normal rate. Tried charging my R1T on Sunday and now today, and the issue is consistent. Charging at around 1.6-1.7kW.

There are no errors or warnings on the dash. I did contact Rivian support and performed a hard reset, infotainment reset and let a sleep cycle happen but nothing has fixed the issue. I have an appointment at my SC tomorrow for them to run diagnostics on the truck but wanted to see what other members did to fix the issue.

There are thermal sensor(s) in the vehicle connector assembly, if it's faulty or the pins are not making good contact and producing heat it will throttle current accordingly.

Make sure you bring your Mobile Charger with you to the SC so they can see it happening live (assuming they have a 240V outlet to plug it in to).

As it’s occurring across both vehicles- I think we can safely determine that the EVSE is at fault.
Hopefully Rivian will be nice and extend a warranty to that for you.

Sorry, my post was misleading a little. The slowed charing rate is only happening to my R1T. My wife's Mach E is charing normally while using the Rivian L2 charger. Updated my post to reflect that.

Have you tried cleaning around the contact pin points on your connector and charge port? A similar thing happened on out Model Y and I checked all the breakers and plug connection for anything that might have become lose creating more resistance but I finally came down to using a Q-tip and alcohol swab to clean around those contact points I mentioned. The swabs came out covered in black soot. I'm thinking it may have been transferred when using a public DCFC which caused the EVSE to sense the added resistance after I got home which caused the added heat and in turn lowered my charge rate for safety. This has only happened once in the almost 4 years of charging this car and has never happened again since cleaning the soot out.

I didn't try that. Was afraid to mess around with it, but my truck is at the SC now being looked at. Hopefully it's something as simple as cleaning the plug connection! Will update the post once I hear what is going on.
