can’t believe rivian is charging for Spotify. Give me a break. I have it on my phone. Give us APPLE CAR PLAY. I’d pay for Apple CarPlay, then I’d have Spotify and WAZE. had been a great suv R1s. Have had no problems and I’ve had it a year and a half 20,000 miles. Will be the last vehicle I get without Apple CarPlay. I have a motorhome and it comes with Apple car play. Come on Rivian get
With the program. Sure is a step backwards having to mount your phone next to the big screen.

The amount of people who don't understand how this works is incredible.

Rivian is not charging your for spotify. it's using the spotify account that you're already subscribed to. If you don't have spotify, then use Apple music or tidal or amazon. Not that complicated.

If you're talking about paying for connect +, then just link your phone to the car as a wifi hotspot and you get just about everything just using your phone's data. Not that difficult.

A Lot of companies are going away from Apple CarPlay since they can integrate their systems AND 3rd part apps in a way that's better for their ecosystem. Tesla, Rivian, GM, Lucid, and a lot of other companies are going against using CarPlay or Android Auto.

Ultimately what car you buy next is up to you, but if you're willing to sacrifice everything else you'd like in a new car because it doesn't have CarPlay then you're walking out on a lot of options in the future.

Rivian so far seems to be the only manufacturer charging for this functionality immediately. I know other manufacturers plan to charge after three years or whatever but the way that Rivian has gone about this has really rubbed people the wrong way, particularly because there’s no good option if you don’t want to pay them every month for something you already have. FWIW I am still getting free data in my Volvo for Spotify and android automotive.

If your business decisions make it more compelling to be annoyed at the brand rather than compelling to buy the feature you’re doing it wrong.

That’s not true according to tech support. Only way I can get Spotify is thru my phone thru Bluetooth. Without connect +.

Yeah, these manufacturers are all wrong.

https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/

Except just the opposite is true and even Lucid relented a year ago and offers CarPlay wired and wireless. And I’ll bet good money that GM retreats on their decision to abandon it. While nearly every other manufacturer on the planet offers CP, we Rivian owners still don’t have texting, map options and a host of other already available apps because of Rivian’s hubris. Instead, we have an Apple Music app that still isn’t stable after 4 releases.

There is a lot of merit to the argument that Rivian should support carplay.

It simply makes life easier for people who want to use their phone as the both the connectivity point, and the app. Where they can use whatever music subscription they want or whatever navigation app they want.

The only issue is Rivian will never support Carplay and it doesn't really matter how much we argue for it. It simply isn't going to happen.

Maybe it will with Scout because ultimately VW controls that platform. Getting a Scout will be like having a Rivian, but not a Rivian. :)

Without CarPlay and without subscribing to Connect+ your only option is using your phone as a hotspot.

You can still use Apple Music, Spotify, etc from the screen on the Rivian. The only annoyance is setting up a hotspot.

I've never done it as I have limited data on my phone. I opted to cancel Spotify to pay for Connect+. I vastly prefer Apple Music anyways.

I do find it hilarious that I have 4 internet connectivity plans and I'm only one human being. Maybe I should just carry a Starlink Mini anywhere I go. But, it would be $165/month and very inconvenient.

Another one... taking internet connectivity for granted. Do you not pay for internet at home? Does your work not pay for internet connection?

Why would you expect internet connection for the car to be any different?

Get a grip.

Also, if you own a $100k car, you can pay for the internet service for it.
