I read a few people asking about Mammoth charging in other posts this week. As hayduke and others have posted, there is not much progress in mammoth for public (non-tesla charging).^ Quoting myself from January. Very little progress on the new town ice rink which I heard was badly damaged during the winter storms. I myself am in what is now a multi-year epic with my HOA to even get a personal charger installed despite the Davis-Sterling act in CA that demands HOA allow chargers for personal use.
The level of public education / awareness on this issue among locals / homeowners is woeful. Most members of the public seem surprised/unaware I can't charge at a Tesla charger and/or that no public charging options exist in town.
I have not heard any news of other public chargers being planned. I'm a local but I imagine for tourists the charger is almost going to need to be at one of the bases for the mountain (a large number of level 2 chargers seem ideal for this).
The only consolation is if you're just here for a short trip, it's only about 10% of range to get back to Bishop and probably about the same whenever Lee Vining opens. If you're staying in town a while, good luck...
Other than private homes and restricted charging at some hotels and condos, there seems to be only two options. The RV Park on main and the Ice Rink (Community Center). I charge at home, but I drove to both today to check them out for this post
RV PARK: You check in at the office and they will assign you a 50 amp plug-in location/campsite - bring your own charger. They have a 2 hr, 5 hr and overnight rate. I donāt want to quote the prices as they may change, so give them a call if you are interested.
Ice Rink/Community Park:
There are 4 level II (tesla plug) chargers and 12 Level III chargers (tesla plug). A Rivian owner in town said you can use them with an adapter. For this post I wanted to test, but I donāt have an adapter. Also, my Tesla App doesnāt show the location for non-tesla usersā¦.. but that later point may just be my lack of Tesla-App knowledge. the following are pics (12/14/20223) of the chargers at this location. Tesla is killing it up here!
Bottom line = CHARGE IN BISHOP!!!!!
