^ Quoting myself from January. Very little progress on the new town ice rink which I heard was badly damaged during the winter storms. I myself am in what is now a multi-year epic with my HOA to even get a personal charger installed despite the Davis-Sterling act in CA that demands HOA allow chargers for personal use.

The level of public education / awareness on this issue among locals / homeowners is woeful. Most members of the public seem surprised/unaware I can't charge at a Tesla charger and/or that no public charging options exist in town.

I have not heard any news of other public chargers being planned. I'm a local but I imagine for tourists the charger is almost going to need to be at one of the bases for the mountain (a large number of level 2 chargers seem ideal for this).

The only consolation is if you're just here for a short trip, it's only about 10% of range to get back to Bishop and probably about the same whenever Lee Vining opens. If you're staying in town a while, good luck...
I read a few people asking about Mammoth charging in other posts this week. As hayduke and others have posted, there is not much progress in mammoth for public (non-tesla charging).

Other than private homes and restricted charging at some hotels and condos, there seems to be only two options. The RV Park on main and the Ice Rink (Community Center). I charge at home, but I drove to both today to check them out for this post

RV PARK: You check in at the office and they will assign you a 50 amp plug-in location/campsite - bring your own charger. They have a 2 hr, 5 hr and overnight rate. I don’t want to quote the prices as they may change, so give them a call if you are interested.

Ice Rink/Community Park:
There are 4 level II (tesla plug) chargers and 12 Level III chargers (tesla plug). A Rivian owner in town said you can use them with an adapter. For this post I wanted to test, but I don’t have an adapter. Also, my Tesla App doesn’t show the location for non-tesla users….. but that later point may just be my lack of Tesla-App knowledge. the following are pics (12/14/20223) of the chargers at this location. Tesla is killing it up here!

Bottom line = CHARGE IN BISHOP!!!!!

Likely referring to a Tesla tap level 2 for the destination chargers which could be free. No need for an app.

@Glongo Does the ice rink posted in the photo above go by a different name? When i navigated to Ice Rink or Community Ice Rink, it took me to an outdoor ice rink behind Minaret Village Center, next to the library. There were no chargers in sight and that building was not there. Appreciate any help in directing me to the 1 plug that seems to work! Thanks.

Once Tesla SC becomes available to Rivians, that'll help a lot, since there is a SC in Mammoth.

There is RAN going in Lee Vining/Mono Lake. You can find it on Rivian RAN map as future site.

The lack of EV DCFC in Mammoth must be the city not allowing permits. Given its tourism and almost all road access (private planes yes but no common commercial option), one would think that there should be plenty of EA/EVgo/ChargePoints readily available, but no....

Sorry for the late reply. On my maps, it shows it as ā€œMammoth Lakes community recreation centerā€œ

Big Bear was bad too. There was only one DCFS. 50kw at the bank I think. Now I think there's a double in the village. Meanwhile Tesla just put in a handful of units. There are certainly destination resort areas that still have issues.

We are headed up to Mammoth the week of New Years in our R1S so I’ll report back as well. Renting a condo that we haven’t been to before but hoping I’ll be able to use a long extension cord (parking appears to be right next to the unit). Definitely plan on charging to 100% in Bishop before heading up the hill. Probably will also hit either the Inyokern or Olancha RAN on the way up as well. It’s our first road trip in the Rivian so a little nervous but hoping for the best.

I’m on my first road trip (Bend, OR) and the R1T has been the best road trip vehicle I have ever used.

I used one Electrify America station, and three Rivian Adventure Network stations. Charging was fast and easy. I liked the rest break with charging.

Our AirBnB has a wall charger.

I think you will do fine getting up to Mammoth, and back. I wish there were more chargers at rentals everywhere.

FWIW you shouldn’t need to charge to 100%, it would be a waste of your time. I’d suggest 85-90%. When I was there last week I found it took my truck around 30% to get from Bishop to Mammoth Lakes and about 17% to get back to Bishop. You should expect to do at least 15-20% better than me unless you also have a camper on your R1S ;)
