The latest video shows the tow hitch mounted to the frame. It is definitely a 2 inch receiver. Even though I don't tow that often, I'm glad to see that Rivian has included a tow hitch from the factory. Here is a snap shot from the video.
As for my guess on the towing capacity it will be 6000 lbs. I currently drive a 2007 Nissan Xterra. Yes, I know it is old, but it has served me well for over 220,000+ miles. My Xterra weighs 4400 lbs, is 72.8 inches wide, and has a wheelbase of 106.3 inches. With those specs the Xterra can tow 5000 lbs. So the R2 will have a width of 75 inches, a wheelbase of 115.6 inches, and I'm also guessing the R2 will weigh between 5500-6000 lbs itself. With a larger footprint and more curb weight to work with it seems to be a logical guess that the R2 towing capacity will around 6000 lbs.
I have my reservation in and it will be my first EV. I am super excited about the R2 and can't wait to take delivery when my number comes up.
