I am using the Rivian trip planner for planning a trip to from Seattle to San Jose, CA making stops at multnomah falls near portland, Carter lake, Mount Shasta in my R1S. I have set my arriving range to be at 30% (i.e. around 90+ miles), however I see the the trip planner saying I will arrive at Crater lake with 78 miles then drive 2.3 hrs driving 118 miles before I can next charge. This doesn't make sense has I will not be able to do 118 when I had only 78 miles left at Crater lake. Can someone share similar experiences with trip planner. I have also enclosed a picture from the trip planner.

No sure what this route is. We did crater last summer and had no issues. If heading north, take 97 to OR from Shasta. Charge in Klamath falls, hit crater, then charge in crescent then charge in madras. Then 26 to 35 to 84 at Hood river. EA in hood river. Or Madras to happy valley RAN in east Portland area

Part of that is because the elevation of crater lake is very high. I have done this drive to crater lake and back to Crescent ( with my camper and 20" ATs we even camped 2 nights and did some offroading before going back ).

If you charge up high enough in Crescent and got to Crater lake you might even make it directly to Roseburg from Crater Lake. Even better if you can get the L2 for a while to top off while in Crater Lake.

Also I would note that I hope this is a summer trip plan, I wouldn't count on Rivian NAV in knowing which entrances to Crater Lake are open.

Thank you. Very helpful tips. We are returning back to CA from Seattle this weekend and will apply judgement and exercise caution. Thank you again

Plan your long distance trip in ABRP, not the Rivian nav.

The Rivian nav doesn't know about a lot of charger networks, for one. And doesn't give you all the planning options like ABRP does.

Rivian purchased ABRP last year, so the Rivian nav should eventually get a lot of ABRP features. But until then use ABRP.

In addition to ABRP I’d consult PlugShare to verify which chargers are actually working. The RAN’s are reliable but EA is not.

North entrance closed for winter and won't open until June or later. South is temporarily closed due to snowstorm

FYSA: The vendor currently managing/operating Crater Lake is imminently losing the contract. Standby for heavy rolls.

Thank you all, we skipped Crater lake based on the suggestions. We will plan a trip during summer. Hope Rivian is able better integrate with ABRP navigation by then.
