Curious, does anybody else's front seats have different inserts?

It seems like I have been a space cadet, but I just noticed (after 4 months of ownership) that my passenger seat has no wood insert on the back.

Am I special or does anybody else have the same setup on their R1?

My R1T is a 12/22 built.

You are probably special. They changed from wood around that time frame, seems like you were caught up in the change.
