I'm a little confused by why neither the R1T nor the Cybertruck have any kind of winch accessory.

Rivian does have there recovery kit, but it would be pretty neat to have a fully integrated winch.

There is this rumor, but it seems to be way out dated.

Rivian's 12V batteries are too small for the heft of the vehicle, and 48V automotive winches aren't a thing yet. It certainly would be nice to have a winch powered directly off the HV battery but I imagine they'd likely have to design all the way back to the pack to incorporate one.

Maybe it's still on the table with this reported Rivian pack redesign.

That spot looks like one of those deceiving areas where people might try to drive because you can see the grass sticking up through the snow, but once you start driving on the snow and soft ground it could be bad news for anyone. I wouldn't drive down there if I was alone, that's for sure. And if I were in a group I would try to trick someone else into going down there...

It almost appears the Tesla folks were trying to catch some sweet video of a CT off roading to get a Christmas tree and it all fell apart because they don't know WTF they are doing. They would have been SOL if that truck had not come along.

Good thing the Tesla employee knows about treading lightly and not going off path. /s

That was my other thought. WTH are they even doing down there in the first place, tearing up that meadow? I don't know anything about the area though...

So basically you are saying it's all Tesla's fault that the BLM is closing offroad trails..

There are plenty of a$$holes out there, driving all kinds of different trucks doing this crap. I'm sure you have seen them out there too - or at least the aftermath of them doing it. This just happened to be a high profile example.

Yeah I was joking really, I would hope that the average Tesla owner would know to tread lightly but it could be ignorance too rather than being purposely destructive. Mostly what gets me is when people leave a bunch of trash at dispersed camp sites, or purposely dump tires, old vehicles etc in the forest.

I agree - that is much worse.

So this is a dumb question but they've got plenty of space to either side. Why try going straight up? If it had been me, I'd probably have tried turning the wheel a bit and go at an angle. ?

Edit: Doesn't that thing have some kind of four wheel steering, as well?

I don’t think neither four wheel steering nor steer by wire is an advantage when off-roading

The Cybertruck is limited to 2D.
