I installed my Garmin dashcam tonight and found a few pleasant surprises.

1) It's very easy to tuck the power cable behind the trim neatly.
2) There is a 12v car charge port under the center console area that I hadn't seen before

It all made for a very simple install. Here's a quick review video

Hope this won't be necessary soon. Really hope Rivian enables dashcam in UI update. Thought they would have baked this in before release. Kinda silly, 10 cameras and no dashcam.

I am very confident they will deliver this feature eventually. Seems silly not to. But in the meantime, I have grown so used to have a dashcam that I can't imagine not having it on all the time.

Yep. 10 cameras … why not 20 cameras and why not 24x7x360º video and audio recording uploading to a cloud and charge $0.99 for a few gigs just like Apple and Google … ?

Thanks for sharing.

My long time wish is that, in general, the unit behind the rearview mirror has usb/-c power outlet for dashcam mount purpose..

You got my hopes up there when you wrote "pleasant surprise" I was hoping for a 12V supply in the rearview mirror … I still hope it's there and easily tapped for a radar detector and a dashcam.

I wonder why Rivian (and Tesla and all modern day automakers) don't go to Valentine, Escort, Thinkware and all the accessory companies and figure out integrated, bespoke solutions. I'd happily pay Rivian $100 (or whatever) for a "Valentine accessory powered mount" hanging off the rear view mirror assembly. It's all value to the customer and top line "upsell" for the carmaker.
How many Rivian owners would pay for a gopro charge bay in the frunk or gear tunnel?
How about a DJI drone "charge and deploy" pod on the roof or as a rack accessory with a big "return to home" landing cross (secured, locks with the vehicle, powered, remote control through the keyfob or app)?
Electric bikes from Specialized? Load in the bed, locked and secure, and charge from the vehicle?
Hobie?
Torqeedo?
There's more partners on the map than just Thule and Yakima.
Samsonite luggage fitting the frunk and gear tunnel.
Or how about a 3D print model on thingiverse for owners to printer their own storage bin to go in speaker dock?
Seems to me Rivian has key decision makers running the show like a conventional car company.

The vehicles cameras will be a lot better than a dashcam. I was hit at the very back corner of my Tesla a four way stop. A front dashcam would have shown little. I provided insurance an edited three camera view. (No music, but I did provide transitions between each view).

I expect Rivian have this feature this year. If they don't its suggests they are really backlogged.

I also expect that the disappointing video quality will be improved with post processing.

Tesla only records four cameras.

I know you're joking... But I'd pay $0.99 a month for that feature. Easily.

DJI drone would be a nice one. But I think that the manufacturer simply does not fit into the car all the consumers want. But they could provide the ability to customize the car.
I really like the idea of drones. I personally have 4DRC F4 GPS Drone https://www.extremefliers.com/drones-under-300/#product2. On the roof or as a rack addition, my drone "charging and deploy" pod with a large "return to home" landing cross. Sound good.

Fantastic feature idea for the membership.

Also something id hope Nationwide pressures them to include to help rates.

Sorry to hijack, but picked up a dash cam the other day. Do I need to worry about drain/killing the 12v battery leaving it plugged in?

It will eventually happen, yes... The question is just "how long".

No. If you use the lower cigarette lighter (beneath where the screen is) I have found that it turns off when the truck turns off and does not drain. It then turns back on when I get in to drive. So I don't believe there is any drain at all by the dashcam.

dashcam video quality is disappointingly cheap, but there are some halfway decent dashcams and they include a rear camera and functionality like sentry mode (some include side cameras, but I think this is more a gimmick mimic of Tesla) … the challenge is installing a dashcam discretely and having it function when needed (not just get knocked out of alignment by the initial impact.)
