From Car and Driver's article about the Camp Kitchen:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36920073/rivian-r1t-electric-pickup-camp-kitchen-specs/

Rivian R1T R1S Deliveries starting in January 2022? 20210705_150022 (1)

Interesting that the story ends with: "Rivian says will (sic) start deliveries of the R1T (and the similar R1S electric SUV) in January 2022."

I hope we get a little clarification soon, very soon.

Edit: A quick call to Lucas in the Customer Engagement Center, and he confirmed that Car and Driver left out the critical detail that January 2022 is for the non-Launch Edition versions. The LE versions are still coming out the latter half of this year, as previously announced.

Lucas has likely already contacted the Media Dept. to have Car and Driver amend their story.

In other words:

The article was technically correct. Because you can't pre-order an LE version, the earliest Rivian will be delivering R1T's would be January, 2022.

Why rub it in that you missed the chance to get an LE and have it delivered potentially before the the regular units.

Eeyore,

I'm not sure I agree with that assessment. The Customer Engagement team didn't like the fact that Car and Driver got the timeline wrong for first deliveries. They wanted them to report that the first units are coming this year. That reservation-holders have secured the first round doesn't invalidate that statement. Had C&D said, "units ordered now won't be delivered until January of 2022 or later", then I'd agree that it would be technically correct.

I would think anyone looking to get a Rivian (or the first of any manufacturer's product) over two and a half years after the door opened to reservations, shouldn't expect to be in the first wave. After all, "will start deliveries of...." implies first deliveries, regardless of who will be receiving them. And the Customer Engagement Team was pretty clear that they are on schedule for starting deliveries of both vehicles this year.

I know if I decided to jump into line for a Cyber Truck at this relatively early juncture, I wouldn't expect to receive one for quite a while, maybe into next (or the next) year. If Elon said "The Cyber Truck deliveries will start this year!", and any of the car magazines declared "deliveries will begin next year", he'd poop a pastry right on the spot and demand a correction. And rightfully so.

I wanted to say "$#!T a Twinkie", but was afraid I might offend someone. If there are any bakers, health experts, or junk food junkies out there, I apologize for almost printing that.

That would have been a better way of accurately describing the delivery date.

Pooping out a twinkie would be pretty funny, and a little hard to explain.

I had a buddy from Hawaii in the dorms freshman year (1975) that used that phrase for someone's reaction of shock or outrage, and it struck my funny bone. I've been using it ever since. I like giving credit where credit is due, but now he's a doctor and I'm sure he'd prefer his name be withheld. If I gave it out, he'd.... well, you know....:swear:

Doubt that will happen. We aren't even hearing of the LE being delivered. They are s month late now.

Don't trust anything by Car & Driver—they're well known for heaping praise based on how much the manufacturer spends on advertising with them.
