Happy Spring Solstice!

Unfortunately, I backed into a concrete overhang (I am so mad with myself) this morning and got an 24 or so inch wide, 2 inch tall dent with some deep scratches along the top of my tailgate (see hopefully attached image). Anyone have an idea how much a repair would be? I’ve had my R1T for 3.5 years and this is the first dent I’ve gotten. Was just impatient this morning. šŸ˜ž

How deep are the scratches? Can you tell if it’s through clear, color, or prime?

Dents should be approachable with PDR. If scratches not too deep, a detailer could get it probably close to 90%

For reference PDR usually costs me around 150-450 depending on the size of the dent. I’d ask for reputable recommendations Aron d you and get quotes/assessments. A lot of it depends on access to behind the dent. Not sure if the top of the tailgate plastic pops off easily, but if it does that might help.

PDR for sure. I had something right in the same spot. Got it 98% perfect. The only thing was paint for me. Make sure you get the paint pen from Rivian. Mine was $550 to repair. I’d say $500 to $700 ballpark. It’s aluminum BTW.

Extremely easy to access. Probably best case scenario for PDR

Yes, the trim piece on the top of the tailgate can pop off (too) easily, but it's kind of a 1 time event. Plastic bits break off when it comes off so it is almost not reusable.

Mind came off when I was unloading something from the bad and rubbed over it. Rivian replaced it under warranty. The replacement has stayed attached much more securely.

The top plastic cap on the tailgate does pop off, dont do it in cold weather, the tabs that clip it in will break. If they do, use double sided tape to secure it back down, or screws.

What is "PDR"?

Pointless dent removal. Usually involves pushing with a tool from behind or glue pulling from the front. Knock down high spots. Good techs can take out almost anything. Some locations make it harder others easier. Crease lines generally make things harder. Different metals react differently

Luckily it doesn’t look like you dented a crease from your picture. This would be a tougher PDR cas if so.
