Just tell the wifey it's an investment. It's not like you're only rotating your tires once. You'll make that money back eventually. $40 per, that's 12 tire rotations. Rotate tires every 5k, that's 60k miles. Don't know how long you're planning on keeping the car, but I'll easily be able to pass that on ours someday ;).

Also have a like $200+ jack. Used to do car work on like all the family cars, I dunno, maybe 6+ different cars. Easily made my ROI on that and it's still going strong.
We keep our vehicles 250k+ miles until it's not worth repairing and I put 3k+ miles on my R1S per month, so yeah, it's worth it long term.

We've been together for 37.5+ years. She's heard all my spiels. ;-) I've used that many times before and she has seen me demonstrate that principle many times over the years.

Plus, she drives a Cayenne has diff front vs rear tires which can't be rotated, so she's just busting my balls since I give her a hard time about Porsche owners and her mother nature-hating evil ice luxury SUV. In reality, I'm just jealous of her *real* sound system (24 Bose speakers that CRANK!), an *real* entertainment system that includes Android Auto/Apple Car Play, and a *real* luxury interior with *real* leather and fixed cup holders . ;-)

That said, my R1S can still smoke her Cayenne 0-60s which is what matters most to me. ;-)

Pro-tip: put the truck in sport mode before starting, then turn on 'tire change mode' after the suspension adjusts. There's zero reason for it to be in off-road / highest.
Less suspension drop??

What does this do exactly? I've always used off-road/highest/tire-change as prescribed, but it would be nice if the articulation was limited a bit. Since the key spec on a jack for this purpose is lift-range (with the range contribution of any fixed portion removed) this might help some lesser jacks get the job done.

Bad idea to do this roadside with the spare tire jack. Okay to do it with a 3 ton floor jack that can roll and has a bigger platform. Lifting the truck up will make it shift laterally and you get a lot less sideways movement when the suspension is already maxed out. You're also going to be putting more weight on the jack to just get a corner off the ground since the other corners aren't doing as much to support it. You still have to lift the bad corner to full suspension extension before the tire comes off the ground.

Check my 20 inch wheels. No suggestion at all that they are directional. I know I can remove parts of the underbody cover to expose the frame and use part of the frame for a jack stand.
What about the where the control arm attaches to the frame?

I have decided to just remove 4 panels under the car and use one floor jack and four jack stands.

For those reading this thread who would rather take it in, I had my tires rotated at the Rivian SC. They quoted me $60 - but ended up waiving it b/c I had other work being done.

I just rotated my R1S 22"s a couple weekends ago. I already had a 3.5 ton floor jack, so I bought a 6 ton bottle jack, 2 pucks to do 1 side at a time (front to back and back to front only), and a bigger torque wrench since the one I had didn't go up to 140 ft-lbs.

Didn't notice that the bottle jack only went up to 18.5" until I was in the middle of rotating them, so had to run out to AutoZone and buy another 3.5 ton floor jack that went up to 30.5" w/ extenders.

All told, it cost me $456 for the 2 pucks ($90), torque wrench ($101) and the additional 3.5 ton floor jack ($265), and that's not counting the 6 bottle jack ($58) that was useless.

Let's just say that my wife doesn't hesitate to remind me when the topic comes up that I could have taken it down the street to the FIrestone and had them rotate them for $40.

BTW, I have 4 jack stands but the frame rails are only exposed at the 4 jack puck points, so I don't know how one would be able to rotate them w/o at least 2 floor jacks.
Looks like rock sliders would be a cost saving measure for future changes

So, I finally did do my own tire rotation on my R1S. I did it a little different that I have seen it being done using one floor jack and two jack stands. Here is my video.
