I’ve always been bullish on Rivian, but I recently experienced being a customer shopping for a Rivian and it makes me second guess if they have what it takes to survive. The local sales associates are unresponsive to follow ups. The corporate sales reps are not knowledgeable of the products. The vast drivetrain and battery options for a company that barely produces 50k vehicles a years seems like a poor strategy for increasing volume and becoming profitable.

This is a stark contrast to how Tesla was operating before the Model 3 launched.

I hope I’m wrong.

Have you started a car company before? I'm sure Rivian is doing what they need to to survive. This R2 is going to decide if they make it break it, just like Tesla and the Model 3.
Great insight, I’ve never started a car company and R2 will save them. You are a true critical thinker.

Add this thread to the pile of hundreds of similar threads. The whole "I had a bad day" or "it was a full moon" or "My wife's new bf told me" type speculative posts don't have much value. Especially when there is no real insight given except "my personal experience wasn't everything I wanted and more so Rivian sucks now".

I gave specific reasons for the concern. You gave a defensive generalist response.
Ok then I'm sure Rivian will survive because I have had nothing but good experiences with customer service and service centers. And 90% of the amazon delivery vans are Rivians so I think they will be ok.

Why is being in contrast to the way Tesla started a negative thing? There is more than one path to success.

And Tesla struggled with service, sales, etc in the beginning too.

That’s one way to look at it, but here we are another year of only 50k vehicles produced. Waiting to hear if they obtained that slight gross margins profit too.

If companies are going out of business because someone had a bad customer service experience, here are a few more companies that will be going out of business soon:
Comcast
AT&T
Tesla
Ford
GM
Marriott
Wal-Mart
Target
Wells Fargo
McDonald’s
You get the idea

Then don't buy one. I've bought two, and there isn't anything on the market I'd rather have. Posting a thread here isn't going to do anything.

Rivian’s first deliveries took place at the very end of 2021. So after 3 full years why are you expecting them to produce and sell more than they have? Especially since you already set Tesla as the benchmark for some reason….

It’s not negative because they are simply doing things different than Tesla. It’s because they are doing things different and it hasn’t really worked out for them yet.

Tesla achieved gross margin profit on the Model S in 2013. They also had steady growth year over year in the early days.

I didn’t ask for purchasing advice. I asked for opinions on if Rivian has what it takes to survive.

And there is no guarantee if they tried to do things the same way it would work out for them either. Tesla didn’t launch in the middle of a global pandemic.
