Driver’s display question

On the left side of the driver’s display there are two boxes. A larger one that shows tire pressure, efficiency graph, etc. There is a smaller box above that. This smaller box used to show the name of the street/road/highway I was on. This was very useful info. Now, it only shows the very general direction of travel and the town I am in - completely useless information. I mean, who doesn’t know what frickin’ town they are in? What happened to change this display info? This may have come about with the advent of Google Maps Can’t remember. How can I revert back to the street name view? I tried messing with steering wheel buttons and scrolling wheel, but not luck. I searched around in the settings and the owner’s manual, but couldn’t find anything. Maybe I missed it. TIA.

I think it was when they updated the driver’s screen with .46. I like seeing the city, so I can answer, “what city are we in?” on road trips.

I believe this section needs to be moved beneath tire pressure or efficiency. I would imagine most steering wheel positions block this window.

Well, that’s a whole different issue. It’s the content, not the window location, that concerns me.

Driving along the pacific coast from about Malibu to the border with Mexico, there are many beach towns that run together. The town changes every few miles. Worse, the street address numbering resets.

Seriously, how often are MOST people road tripping where they don’t know the town they are in? Once a year, twice a year, three times a year? On a daily basis, I‘d much rather know the street I’m on than the town I’m in. I live in more of a smallish, suburban environment. But, on any given drive, I could be on a street that I couldn’t name, off hand. Google Maps on the Driver’s display is pretty worthless for street names. I can see how it might have some value when mapping to a destination, as it would be less distracting than the center display. Other than those times, I prefer something else on the driver‘s display. But, that’s another issue. Back on track, regarding that small display window, I think RivIan should give us a couple of options, including street name. Seems that would be very easy to do, especially considering they already had street names up there for a while.

I think this was changed with the switch to google. I often know the name of the street I’m on but cross through several cities. Either way, if I’m that unsure of where I’m going I usually have the navigation on. I could do without either one tbh.

While traveling in the Bay Area, I often don’t know what city I'm in.

I grew up in the Bay Area, so I can certainly understand that scenario. One city , and there are a ton of them, blends into another. Having said that, I’m not sure I really thought much about it during the many years I lived there. Like, gee, am I now in Palo Alto or Los Altos or Mountain View or Sunnyvale, or wherever? Where did I cross the line? It certainly wasn’t a daily, burning question I understand there may be situations where knowing the exact town you are in may be useful. For me, on a daily basis, I think I would find knowing my exact location (street, road, highway) far more valuable. To each his/her own, I guess. That’s why I think Rivian should give us the option.

It is an interesting question, I can tell you driving around SoCal I almost always know what road I’m on, never used that part of the screen for that but frequently look at it to see what town I’m in. I would not complain if it also displayed the road name but if it came to city or road my preference would be city.
