Dumb Spare Question - Does it come with a cover/tray?

So I added the "compact spare tire" to an existing service appointment last week. I only had a narrow window to grab the car and make it back when it was done so I just verified the main issue had been dealt with (it was! Thanks SC!) Figured the spare was pretty much fool-proof.

When I checked it later, it's there and seems to be mounted fine in the sub trunk but there is not a "tray" or cosmetic cover over the tire as shown in the gear store page. I posted a question in the app chat I had been having with my service advisor but I suspect they'd already closed that out.

I could push harder, or heck just swing by the SC - it's pretty close - but I thought I'd ask here and see if this is still something that people get with the compact spare. I don't think it really matters? I seem to have the jack and the tire mounted securely. Does the cover have any actual function?

nope, no tray. The cover has legacy cutouts for the bits you find under the frunk floor in a Gen 2.

If you have R1S they will install a new corresponding tray. The “cover” is your cargo floor. Use forum search and you’d see pictures of it installed. Owner Guide probably has illustrations.

So this is what I have (Gen2 R1S) and the latter is the picture on the gear shop. Just wondering if they changed what's included or if I should care. It seems functional but if they forgot to put the last piece on or something I'll go ask about it.

The jack kit design changed. That is what you are seeing. Look at Owner Guide and Tow Operator guide. Both versions are illustrated. The container for jack and accessories doubles as the jack base, to add height and provide stability. Its design changed and flipped around. What you think is a cover is the bottom side of it.

Check and confirm all tools that come in the kit are present. Sometimes they fall out in transit to Rivian from supplier, or was never provided, and go unnoticed by Rivian staff. Another reason to know what is in the official guides.

OK Cool. One less thing to worry about. Ideally I'll never use the thing but would hate to find out on the side of the road in the rain that like an important cotter pin or something was attached to that piece.

Read/skim those official guides. Worthwhile to have familiarity of contents.

I've never even heard of the Tow Operator Guide (I haven't yet taken the cover off the hitch receiver) but I was trying to peruse the main Manual just the other day. I was in the car waiting on a kid in the rain and I was trying to figure out how to trigger the rear wiper manually. The built-in browser kept displaying a page, then immediately crashing. Works great on a real computer though.

I have a G1, got my spare in 11/23, it looks just like what you have.

My G1 R1S spare tire compartment seems deeper than the ones I’m seeing posted here. I also have a upper removable tray that fits my compressor accessories and a bunch OG other stuff.

Same upper tray with my Gen2 with the All-Terrain package, which I also have loaded with gear.

Interesting that some are delivered without it. Maybe a difference in the All-Terrain package versus optional add-on?
