Employee referral?

Found a thread on r/rivian subreddit purporting to request rivian employees to DM for discounts. Someone reached out to me and said they wanted my order number to place the referral … any chance of a scam? Anything malicious can be done with my order ID?

There has been discussion of these employee discount sharing on a couple of threads, not sure what the scam angle would be with just providing an order number but who knows.

Yeah being a new customer I just don’t know if there is any havoc someone could create having just an order ID…

Ifs probably totally fine but I suspect it’s more than order ID, probably name, Email, and phone number etc

Mostly the scam starts after the first interaction.
Giving your order number doesn't seem harmful, later they might ask for email or social or banking information to make payment directly to Rivian.
May be a payment of couple thousand as they are giving you a big favor.

All they need is your order number, email address, first & last name. Aside from the order number, it’s not too difficult to find that Info online for me. Worst case they get into my Rivian account with my credit card I guess? I used a referral from Reddit so I will keep you posted on if it goes through or I get scammed.

edit: I spoke to another Rivian employee who said there was some incentive for employees with referrals. He wouldn’t say what but maybe some sort of bonus? I’ve had 3 other employees ask me if I got my referral yet so that would make sense if that’s the case.

I only had to provide the employee my order #. He didn’t ask for name, email, phone number or zip code. The discount showed up on my order today after giving him my order # on Sunday night

the screenshot he showed me said order number, name and email address. It also said it would take one business day. Other folks have waited up to 5 days. There was another guy who got his in 24 hours and then another person whose guide was able to expedite it. I reached out to the guy who referred me so we’ll see.
