EV Charger Install

Hi all,

For those installing a Level 2 charger for at home charging, are you being asked to consider whole house surge protector? Any one have feedback on this? I'm seeing install cost for charger at $950 and $500 for a surge protector, just curious if that is necessary.

A few places tried to get me to pay for the surge protector as well. Ultimately, I did not have one installed.
