Exped MegaMat Air Compressor Adapter

Hey, all. I’ve got an R1S with the air compressor and recently purchased an Exped mattress for it. I’m looking for a very specific adapter or kit which would allow me to inflate the mattress using the air compressor. It was rather surprising that neither the vehicle nor the mattress came with what was needed to make it work. I’ve got this fancy air compressor and mattress but still ended up having to use the foot inflator. Dang! Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Mattress comes with a little hand pump. Exped also sells a little battery powered pump. The mattress will self inflate but it is quicker if you use a low pressure air pump.

I bought an assortment of adapters on Amazon. Give me all the adapters, I said. However, inflating large volume items with low pressure can be fiddly with the onboard pump. You have to set the pressure much higher to keep the pump running and verify it yourself. For the SUP, as an example, I use the onboard compressor to get it 70-90% target pressure, then dial it in with the hand pump.

If you’re compelled to use the R1’s compressor your best bet is to 3d print a custom adapter, mate it to a 1/4” NPT male Milton-M fitting (so it’s compatible with the female fitting on the hose). Otherwise, best to just get Exped’s inflator. Or one by Flextail and hope one of the adapters is compatible or not exact fit but workable (as is the case with my Nemo pad).

Low pressure is key.
You can easily burst the mattress with the Rivian air compressor.
If you don't have the patience to wait for the mattress to self inflate use the foot pump or a low pressure battery pump.

Also when self inflating put the pull tab that hangs off of the inflation valve cover into the valve to keep the rubber flap fully open. (deflation valve is larger valve) I used to use my ryobi low pressure inflator with an adapter to make the tip larger to inflate before I purchase the exped inflator. You can also use most inflators to to help deflate to make rolling up the mattress easier.

One inflation with the onboard will be enough and you will wish you had just bought a proper air mattress inflator.

I was on the hunt for a long while. Adapters are very hard to find and to the point others have made you could over inflate the mattress accidentally.
I got the exped mega pump and am very happy with it, especially for the deflate ability to get the mattress as small as possible when packing up.
