PPF was about a 3 week wait after production before it shipped. I was in dallas yesterday and popped in to walk around it and they did a decent job installing it. All expel installers that do it for the $1,500 price are going to do it exactly like this with the templates cut the same way. That’s pretty dang cheap for what you’re getting and I waited to let them do it so I’ve only got one person to complain to and no back and forth about whether it’s a paint or film problem. I’m 3 hours from the sc and wasn’t able to drive my trade over so they’re bringing the R1S to me Friday after lunch. I’d either let them do it or if I wanted a premium job with all edges wrapped I’d prepare to spend $3k
I’ve got a friend who had a Mar-Apr delivery estimate with front PPF. He was told his vehicle is built and waiting for PPF almost a month ago now with no updates from his guide since and no 8-step email. Meanwhile, I had a July-Sept delivery estimate, snagged one from the shop, and mine’s already on a train headed my way. Expect delivery in early- to mid-May.
If I’m being honest, I’d remove it. As others have said, they are pre-cut templates and don’t wrap edges or remove logos. Aftermarket will do both of those, but it may cost more unless you can sweet talk your way into an installer giving you the same price as the Rivian deal, but fully wrapping the edges.
EDIT: I have no real insight on whether PPF is impacting deliveries, but I do suspect there’s a bottleneck in PPF applications.
Just some added info for you: My quotes for full XPEL Stealth wrap, all logos removed and all wrappable edges wrapped ranged from $5800-6500 from high-end detail shops. This is in comparison to the $4500 deal with Rivian for a pre-cut template application. I was able to get ceramic coating thrown in for free from the 2 shops I ended up focusing on. Also getting window tinting as well for added cost.
I know you’re just doing the front PPF, but this gives you some reference points at least.
Point being, I think the Rivian deal is solid. What you may want to ask yourself, however, is whether you’ll care if dust/pollen/dirt builds up around the edges of logos and panels and is visible after spending the money to have it done before delivery vs. going through the trouble of dealing with it afterwards. My motto has always been: If you’re going to do it, do it right. Especially considering the cost of these vehicles.
