You need a Level 3/DC adapter/CCS Adapter, not an J1772/AC adapter.

A2Z Typhoon <--- Seem to be highly recommended
Lectron Vortex <--- Less so

(Side note: Why are all the the NACS->CCS named after whirling things?)

Thanks @spryde - it's a learning curve! I bookmarked
@spryde is right, 2 different adapters. If you go third party, I would do A2Z as many here have had no issues with but read other threads. Rivian says if there are issues it would void the warranty but many people have refuted that saying it's not legally possible. It's definitely high-quality and down the road you could probably sell it. I'm VIN 12xxx so I won't be getting mine for a long while I'm guessing so I took the plunge with 3rd party knowing we'll be traveling this summer.

They sell the combo for both options and you can use discount code "riv" or "rivian" to save 10%. I don't benefit at all with that code just used it myself and passing it along. Discount code works if you just want to buy the Level 3/DC adapter/CCS Adapter he mentioned. I use that same adapter and no issues. I have both in case of hotels and on the road with DCFC.

I also went ahead and bought the adapters from A2Z. I initially just ordered the 'Typhoon' Level 3 Adapter with the RIV code. Decided that I might as well get the J1772 adapter as well, emailed their support to see if they could add that, with the combo pricing and they did, with the discount code applied too. So far customer support has been great to work with, and my Typhoon adapter arrives on Saturday, with several days to spare for my trip next week.

Test your adapters ahead of time to make sure you're familiar with how they lock / unlock.

Also double check you have your billing all set before you go on a road trip and go through all this for the first time.

You will have to activate your charging session using the Tesla app if you want membership prices.

Make sure you have a credit card on your Rivian profile in your Rivian app if you want to use plug and charge.

@wjhdrew Thanks for these great tips. I'll look into ordering them
