I’ve had my R1T for three years, and the rattle under the front dash mesh has been an ongoing issue.

After much trial and error, I determined this plastic piece, which I presume helps with defrost air vectoring, has been the cause of the rattles all along. I decided to just get it out. Poorly designed piece that isn’t locked in place but just held loosely.

Now, no more rattles from there! So relieved.

How hard or easy is to remove the plastic piece?

Opening the mesh is the hardest part but it’s doable with a trim remover. The mesh is held on with clips that you can see in the picture. If you place your trim remover by each of the two front clips, it should pop off

Gotcha, I might try the same fix. My rattle isn't driving me crazy (I had a piece of rubber pressuring the grill but that stopped working) but would love a permanent solution.

thanks for sharing!

I've had two little rattles come and go around the left-center dash. Both the common one spoken of here, and one in the left area that could be the front of the door. Here was my process to deal with them:

Denial: My $100k truck can't possibly be doing this to me.

Anger: My fucking $100k truck IS doing this to me.

Bargaining: Maybe if I turn up the music I won't hear it? Maybe if this were a loud ICE vehicle it would me masked? What if I just wear earplugs?

Depression: I countered it with a few quad-motor launches. All good.

Acceptance: Once I realized it was not going away, it did. Seriously. After time, they just...stopped. And on occasion one comes back lightly, but not loudly, and goes away. I think I actually made them better with some pretty aggressive and bouncy off-roading. I remember on a drive home from the Salton Sea when I thought about how they were all gone.

We all have our own 'fixes'... When I think my R1T is rattling too much (it doesn't), I just go for a ride in my fully built Ford Focus RS. Those HARSH motor mounts makes the entire car shake like a broken cocktail maker... it's awesome...

Then back on the Rivian an it's... oohhhh peaceful.... zen... :)
