PSA, if you get a "Coolant Level Low" message on your early Gen2, recommend you take it seriously. There seems to be a growing problem with the Degas bottle failing and leaking slowly. The service folks said in the past that sometimes this message was just some air in the system and wasn't always as pressing (so to speak) but they have had 6 Degas failures at our location in the past week so it might be those early Gen2 VINs starting to fail. They fixed it up no issue but it did take a couple days.

The coolant low message usually shows the attached image and sometimes says "Service Vehicle" but then mine actually cleared after a while of driving... but was still a real leak, so if you don't want to end up in turtle mode at an inconvenient time, recommend scheduling service if you see the message even if it clears for a while. Good luck!

Yup mine is one of the first gen 2s. Started throwing this error a week before my previously scheduled appointment for the other recalls. Scheduling wanted me to come in asap but the SC had no earlier appointment. My service rep did mention off hand that implied this is happening semi regularly now, and that parts availability is the limiter in repair time. Cars been in the shop about two weeks now and should be done next week.

I recently upgraded to a 2025 R1T. I got it in January and have been getting that error every so often. At times I drive and do not see it at all other times it comes on when I am just leaving to back home. Usually, it is followed by Thermal fault error. Sometimes it goes off after a little bit. I also get rear senser error and low washer fluid error once in a while. None of them are consistent as to when I see them and sometimes, they disappear right away and other times they stay on. I have a service ticket for March 20th for some cosmetic things they have to fix that we found at purchase so they hopefully can address the errors then.

Our Gen2 R1S had the same thing happen. It was very obvious as blueish cooling fluid was leaking out the front on the passenger side. Rivian towed it 3 hours to Normal and replaced the tank. Guy said these are failing where the hose connects to the tank and new units have been upgraded. Should be a recall but taken care of under our warranty anyway. I am just glad it didn't happen when we drove it from Oregon to Iowa 😳

I just had the same issue on the Gen 1 R1T. I saw the low coolant error once. It went away and never returned but I reported it to Rivian anyway. When I took the R1T in for another service issue, they checked it and found the same issue with the bottle and hose. They tried to charge me for the replacement but when I pressed them on the issue, they replaced it for free. The service center said that you need to pay attention to that error because if you lose too much fluid, the Rivian will go into turtle mode and need to be towed in.
