The entire world has a difficult time competing with Chinese manufacturing. Not because it is vastly superior to the rest of the world but because the lack of worker rights, environmental regulations, and the Chinese government manipulating their currency compared to the rest of the world making it impossible to compete on a cost basis.
Ding ding ding. Competing with Chinese EV manufacturers isn't a competition between two auto manufacturers. It's a competition between an auto manufacturer and the government behind the second largest economy in the world. It's not a fair comparison. The CCP is willing to do whatever it takes to muscle out the competition to create a global hegemon, even if it means losing money on every car they make for decades.

If Chinese EVs land here without US governmentā€™s hefty tariffs, the only US auto company remaining will be Tesla. Nobody else has the engineering efficiency and cost structure to compete. Itā€™s time to face the data and facts, and stop the blind hate
Not even Tesla would survive. Even the EV God Elon said so.

None of the things you offered as excuses make it ok to behave the way he does. I hire many people with Aspergerā€™s because they are often wonderful with animals and none of them act like he does. He alone is accountable for his behavior.
You made me watch the entire interview of Elon with Don Lemons ( without commentary).
I can see why people may hate Elon based on his political views and belief in ā€œabsolute free speechā€. But what I see is extreme ā€ tunnel visioningā€ on a subject with lack of social or emotional intelligence. I see this high functioning Autism Spectrum disorder often in medical/surgical specialties. My patients donā€™t like them, but they make damn good specialists/surgeons! Guess what? Elon made me damn rich! I suppose these traits can help in tech startups.

Thatā€™s great if thatā€™s what you think about Elon. But this thread and forum isnā€™t about Elon and people have a right to their opinion even if you donā€™t agree. You can worship Elon and others can hate him. Thatā€™s ok. Thatā€™s the right we have in this country.

You probably also know that most people on the spectrum do well with structure and clearly communicated rules and procedures. They seek that out. The behavior we see from Elon goes far beyond ā€œlack of emotional intelligenceā€. He is a dangerous conspiracy theorist who has happily given hate groups a platform to spread their BS across the internet Because he agrees with much of what they say. We know that because he repeats it with his own words.

The folks that work for us are kind. They are caregivers. They take constructive criticism well and want to do better. They actually are some of the most honest people that have ever worked for us. That doesnā€™t sound like Elon.

Do you know he has Asperger syndrome and struggles with severe depression, and confessed to taking Ketamine? Do these facts make your feeling about Elon different? I am a retired physician, and perhaps I look at people differently. Judging people without knowing fully will cause many mistakes in life.
It's okay that he's a bad person, he has Aspergers.

Did you know that many people who have studied Hitler believe he had Asperger syndrome, was austitic, etc? Do these facts make you feel different about Hitler? Does that make his behavior OK?Should society overlook the bad behavior and transgressions of a powerful and influential person who got there at the expense of or by profiting from that society? Itā€™s pretty clear from your statement in another post regarding your apparent TSLA investments that you have rose colored glasses on. Iā€™ve made a bunch of money from TSLA too, but I donā€™t let that cloud my perspective on Musk. If anything, I hold him more accountable, despite his medical challenges. I have several friends ā€œon the spectrumā€, nobody gives them free passes in life, nor do they expect it, and itā€™s no justification for Muskā€˜s behavior.

I'm not responsible for HAVING my personality traits. We all have them, and all traits have advantages and disadvantages.

I am responsible for what I DO with my personality traits; for monitoring my impact on others the best I can; and for staying aware that my good intentions don't mitigate the effects of my behavior.

I agree with @COdogman: People with autism make great team members. Not always the best team leaders. Everyone is responsible for finding a place in which they -- with their unique characteristics -- can support themselves by making life better for others. Understanding isn't condoning.

I would prefer not to see Musk compared with Hitler. Putin seems to be headed in Hitler's direction. Musk seems to be just a jerk (partly explainably, as @Rivian Head notes) with too much money and power for his own good.

We wouldn't even be having this discussion if the world didn't have so many billionaires, who think their wealth is evidence of superior judgment in other fields. But that's WAY beyond the scope of a thread about whether solid state batteries will solve big problems in the foreseeable future.

Thanks to all!

Iā€™m am not a Elon apologist but what bad things did he do? Did he break laws? Comparing to Hitler, now? Creating tons of jobs, spearheading EV revolution, revolutionizing reusable rockets, starlinking Ukrain internet for free ( at least temporarily), leading neuro implant tech for ALS patients etcā€¦ giving hopes to manyā€¦ all with battling his medical conditions.. Can we focus on good of people, love, accept, embrace, and roof for each other?
Happy Easter!

I believed in this tech enough to buy stock back in 2021 with a company based out of CO. The past 5 days it's actually up 30% so I'm hoping for that future to bear fruit.
