I bought a Tesla charger ($425.00) (wife has a Tesla) and my charging went from 13 mph to 24mph on the same 50 amp breaker. I also had to buy a Tesla tap mini adapter $350.00. The Tesla tap mini is good to have because it works on any Tesla destination charger and they are free.

I would go crazy if I didn’t have a 60A breaker delivering the 48A to get 24-25 miles of range per hour. I think it’s a necessity for anyone who has a Rivian and the available power to do it. It just takes too long to charge otherwise - given the relatively low efficiency (eg miles of range gained by charging since Rivian requires so much energy to get it moving!).

When you hardwire an item, it’s hardwired direct with no break in connection.

Each point has a weakness and introduces resistance.

I can claim all my 120v outlets in my house are hardwired just like your 240v NEMA plug.
when I use a lamp or computer I plug into the outlet, doesn’t mean it’s hardwired. It’s just plugged into a socket. There is a weak link that’s been introduced now and I haven't directly wired my lamp into the breaker.

Again, hardwire means direct connection between the unit and breaker. No other points in the middle.

I you do that using the right cables and breaker. You can pull 48 AMP max continuously from a 60 amp breaker if you make a DIRECT CONNECTION to a capable charger like Rivian.

Everything else will introduce resistance and a weak point that will slow down your charging speed.

It’s just basic science and math.

This is what we mean by hardwired. No outlets in sight. “June” and I don’t like any weakness.

Sorry-my aging eyes-is that a 60 or an 80 on the breaker??

I get about 20 to 21 MPH charging from my Rivian charger that is hard wired to the panel, short wire.
