Exactly. Take a temp gun and measure the air coming out of your AC vents in the summer. It's not coming out at 73 degrees or whatever temp you have set, it's probably coming out at 54. Then it turns off when the thermostat reads 73 (or whatever you have set). Cars AC runs the same way. It doesn't come out any colder and keeping the condenser running for longer than you really want is a ridiculously efficient way to wear out your AC early.
It's like trying to cook a chicken faster by cranking it up to 600. Yes the outside will cook but the inside won't so why bother.

I never use AUTO. I find it to be too aggressive with the fan. I think I saw a change with that in a previous release, may have to give it another go.
You can adjust fan speed while in auto now for sure.

How funny... I was just complaining to my wife about it defaulting to heater seats even with AC on. Came here to find the solution, and found this thread started today.

There are some instances in which it does show AC/ventilation on seats, pretty sure it's when I pre-cool the cabin remotely. That or when pet mode is on and I come back, it shows AC.

So there are definitely cases in which it default correctly, the question is how to make it retain the last used option as default.

If you want to cool your house down from 72 to 70, does turning the hvac to 60 make it cool down faster?
It's possible it does.

IF the house has a newer two stage AC heat pump, depending on the control algorithm, it may make a difference. For example, if the control algorithm has a two degree delta between stage one and stage two, in your scenario, 72 to with a setpoint of 70 would only enable stage 1, but a setpoint of 69 (or lower) would enable stage 2, providing more heat removal from 72 to 71 degrees if the setpoint is 69.

Rivian uses a variable speed compressor and appears to use similar control algorithm. If the delta is one or two degrees, the compressor runs at a slower speed than if the delta is 10 degrees. We have all heard the difference.

I just want software updates that don’t cause 5 other bugs. Looks like the newest update has caused the HVAC to cool very slowly. A lot of people reporting this issue. Every month I’m reminded that Rivian is the B team when it comes to software.
