If a get a wheel with a 20mm offset, will it stick out, or instead 'go inside' and require spacers?

Hello.

From various posts I've seen, it looks like having a smaller offset, say 20mm, than OEM (48mm) would make the wheel stick out more. But then from my understanding of what the offset it shouldn't it be the opposite?

Anybody with a drawing, or maybe a reference on the web somewhere to explain this clearly?

I can't seem to be able to get the MSW type 52 in time. And I can't find the AlphaEquipt mentioned from other forum members, in Canada. So I'm looking at alternatives available here, like RWC RM475.

Thanks.

A 20mm offset wheel has 28mm less offset than stock, so the wheel will stick out 28mm further than stock, assuming it is the same width.

There are several wheel offset calculators that can show you a graphical representation of this.

The "lower" the offset number, the more the wheel will stick out. Check this picture :)

OK good news. I just got a call from tirerack. Looks like the MSW type 52 is back on track for end of the month!
