I have been RTT camper for years. This past year, l have been using the Ikamper Skycamp mini on my R1T. But my daughter is getting a little big and its getting difficult for myself, the wife and daughter to sleep comfortably. Long term solution is to get a teardrop trailer; l could get the raised truck bed rack system but my wife hates that idea. In the meantime, I was thinking of exchanging my Ikamper Skycamp mini for the X Cover which is slightly bigger. Problem is it has a pretty long overhang. Alternatively, l could put of the cab - I know it will look dumb. Just asking for some thoughts on my predicament.

Hi Dixon,

We've had a couple of customers buy 2 Air Cruiser's for their R1T and have one on the back and 1 over the cab, essentially giving you 2 rooms. I suppose that depends if you wanted separate rooms.

My personal advice would be that putting the X Cover on the cab would do the trick but because it would look quite out of place, you'd definitely want to be taking it off between trips, so you'd need some sort of lift system to make things easy.

We've got a very cool RTT that sleeps 4 people, it's a hard shell which is pretty cool. You can take a look at it here it's much easier to set up than the Ikamper X Cover.

I've attached sizing for you, we can do one for $3099 if you're interested.

The regular X-Cover is a no go on the R1T’s truck bed. The problem is that you’ll have too much overhang past the rear cargo bar. I don’t recall the exact length, but iKamper support told me the X-Cover cannot have more than 25” of unsupported length past the cargo bars. Anything more than that and you’re risking damage. I didn’t test it on the roof. I simply elected to get an iKamper Skycamp Mini. If I were you, I’d contact iKamper and ask before you buy.

Here is a thread on my original X-Cover. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/non-rivian-rooftop-tents.4527/page-8#post-195176

I believe the current X-Cover has the same limitation. This doesn’t apply to the X-Cover Mini..
