Bought 8 of these tie-downs to add to the bed (same price on Amazon). I took a few pictures to share because I could not tell from the website how far they protruded.

Installation was simple:
  • Use two small flathead screwdrivers to pop off the plastic cap at each spot. (Work around the edge to pop it out fully.)
  • 10mm socket to remove the existing bolt, washer, and metal cup (?) holding the plastic bed liner at that location.
  • Allen wrench (didn't check what size) to screw in the bolt and lock washer to hold the base in its place.
The rings are easy to remove and attach. Without the ring the bases stick out a little farther than I would like, but they seem like they won't be damaged by gear sliding and slamming around in the bed.

The ring hardware slides around a little once attached, but seem solidly locked in despite this. I installed some of the bases at 45° because I'm unsure how much lateral strength it has pulling in different directions.

Look good. Any thoughts on how much you can reef on them?

No data, no tests. My gut tells me 100 pounds steady pull force would be fine, 200 would be sketchy, 300 would make me very nervous. If I attached a ratcheting strap straight across two and started tightening with one hand, the Internet tells me I could exert over 1,100 pounds of force. Even without knowing that number, I can absolutely imagine these failing structurally if I really cranked down with a strap.

I've used mine to manage lighter items in the bed with ratchet straps (coolers, grills, tvs, etc). For anything heavy that I am trying to really secure, I use the built in tie down points or the bed rail cargo bar mounts. They definitely do make it more convenient to be able to tie things down, and nice that they don't stick out very much. I leave the rings off usually and only snap them on when I need them. I keep them in a bag under the back seat with my ratchet straps. Used to have them around the spare tire, but far too many times I have loaded things in the bed only to realize that I need the rings and my ratchet straps, and have to take things out to get them.
