Installed R1T Window Visor on R1S

Intro:

To my surprise, no one makes R1S window visors. I had them before on my other cars and was hoping to install some on my R1S.​

The Install:

I bought some cheap R1T window visors and attached them to my S.​

- The front was a simple because the doors are identical.​

- The rear was a little tricky because the T doors are shorter than the S. I attached them to the window track.​

Final Thoughts:

I completely understand that this will not fit everyone's taste. I'm not trying to convince anyone that it's a perfect fit.​

However, I wanted the function and this works for me. Thankfully, they were also inexpensive and I can always replace the rears when a real set comes to market.​

Did you buy Husky brand? That’s what I have on my R1T - designed “for” the R1T but I suspect the design engineers never opened the truck windows using the “vent windows” function in the mobile app. I say this because there is a very distinct gap at the back of the rear windows that could allow wind-blown rain into the truck. I called Husky to discuss this and they basically said the R1T is such a low production line that Husky would not and could not take customer input and make any changes. As I pressed they conceded that no one can even reach the product design office so just give up tilting at windmills.

My first approach with Rivian was to ask them to recalibrate my windows at the first service appointment I had after installing the window visors. While this didn’t totally close the rear point gap, it greatly reduced the window to visor edge gap. Now when I use the vent windows feature before I leave the truck I just bump up the rear windows a bit to ensure there is no gap. My frustration with Husky is that they likely just took measurements of a generic R1T without asking an actual owner to lower the windows using the vent feature to ensure the trailing edge covered the gap. I’d like to know that I could vent the windows remotely and have confidence that there is no gap. I sent the attached photos to Husky before I secured the window visors to my truck. I taped them in place along with a piece of blue paper inside the truck so I could measure the gap and explain to Husky why I thought their design was defective and how they could improve it. Like you, I’m surprised you can’t find window visors for the R1S. As I understand it, the R1S now has a larger production quantity than the R1T. At least the R1T visors “work” though not a perfect fit. The T windows taper down in the back to follow the roof line while the S rear window is flat so you won’t have the exposed gap that I had (and still have a little) on my T.

The HUGE side benefit of having Rivian recalibrate my windows is that the road noise was really reduced - by a LOT - when driving with the windows closed. I’ve read about owners adding various door and window weather striping products to make their Rivian quieter. I highly recommend folks get their windows recalibrated first.

I installed a set from amazon. They are $57. I picked this because I didn't know if they would "fit" on my R1S. Plus, if a manufacture were to make true R1S window visors, I wouldn't feel so bad throwing these away. https://a.co/d/0bZO0m1k

@Robot Overlord Interesting point on the venting. The photo that I showed was using the venting feature on the front door. Since we have the same front window, I'm assuming you have the same results.

As for my rear doors, the visors cover the gap when the windows are vented. I think it's because the top of my window is straight. However, there is a tiny hole at the top edge where the visors tampers downwards. You can see it on my 2nd and 3rd photo. I cheated by moving the visor up to cover the hole. The top edge protrudes just a tiny bit past the door. It's really hard to tell unless I'm on a ladder. Thankfully, when it rains here, it's pretty light compared to other parts of the country.

I'm not trying to defend Husky, but did Rivian have the vent feature when they launch the vehicle? Perhaps it was a later feature and Husky already made the molds for the visors?
Anyways, I'm not surprised by Husky's response because I think the market for these is really low; which is probably why no one has made any for the R1S.

I completely understand your frustration because it's so close to covering the window edge. Sooo close but no cigar.

In summary, thanks for posting. Hopefully our info will help both R1T and R1S owners who are considering similar products.

I also bought my Husky window visors on Amazon since they cost less there than purchasing direct from Husky. And I agree, hope our experience can better inform other R1 owners. I also wonder if the vent window app feature was present when Husky designed their window visors. Thanks for posting. It prompted me to share my R1T experience.

Just an FYI, but you can recalibrate your own windows in the Service menu.
