I can see this working on the R1T, with various accessories that could be added to it. Like a crane/winch for the full size spare. But the tonneau cover's rails and the whole tonneau system would have to be redesigned.

Yes, Rivian patented a height extension accessory, that would mount the crossbars higher. Ford's idea is a tower/rail system that could be retracted into the bed up-rights when not in use.
