Hey all! So I am new to Rivian… And this will be my first EV. And I have no idea what to expect.
I wanted the new Acura RSX till they decided to discontinue their EV program. Right when gas was getting expensive lol some companies just don’t get it.
Anyway, it was between the R2 and the BMW IX3. The price point on this was better, the borealis is a better color option and I’ve always wanted a Rivian.

So we placed an order for two or three weeks ago. And we have no idea what to expect lol I’m assuming it’s going to be a very long time.

But good news? We are going next week up to Michigan to test drive one. I really didn’t care personally, but my wife said she would like to drive one and she has never been in an EV. Actually, I don’t know the last time I was either lol.

She’s definitely going to unknowingly love the 636 hp. She thinks her RDX is fast… Just wait.
Anyway, thanks for having me and hope to be enjoying this thing sooner than later.

The one thing I tell people who are not familiar with BEVs is driving one on trips takes more planning than the a ICEV does. Some Tesla drivers say they never plan because the charging network is so food and the ability of a Tesla to plan trips is so good. My friend is like that with his Model Y.

IMO non Tesla owners have never been able to do that. I always plan out each stop to be sure it is at a place I want to stop for 30-40 minutes (food, bathrooms, etc) and that the chargers are reliable.

If you rarely travel, owning a BEV is 100x better than owning a ICEV because you can refuel at home, and no oil changes or spark plug changes. LOL.

Have fun with the test drive and I hope you decide to get a BEV! I am never going back to ICE personally. (My wife has yet to make the transition.)

Thanks for all the info. We don’t really travel with the car too much? I think over the past 10 years with my wife. We’ve taken trips to Columbus, two hours Ann Arbor, two hours Pittsburgh, two hours… And two maybe three really long trips of nine to hours. We mostly go overseas lol

because unlike a lot of people, I know that EV aren’t necessarily designed for cross-country travel. Even though I’m game.

And I do have my “ultimate driving machine“ Civic type R to tickle my fancy on the loud and obnoxious other end of the spectrum lol

so it’s going to be a win-win.
