Hey everyone. I'm Jeff from the Chattanooga Area. Thanks for adding me to the group. I became an official member of #TeamRivian on December 14, 2024 when I traded my Launch Edition Chevrolet Bolt EUV for a Gen 2 R1T. I have always been a truck guy until I moved into the Bolt. I have a 110 mile daily commute for work so moving to an EV was a no-brainer back in 2022. My desire to get back into a truck led me to Rivian. Admittedly, I was holding off for the Silverado EV, but was very disappointed in the final product GM has to offer.

In my first month of ownership, I have fallen in love with the R1T. It is a Dual Large set up on '22s. I am an avid hiker with long distance section hikes along the Appalachian Trail and a full thru-hike of the Pinhoti Trail under my belt. I'm looking forward to returning to the Talladega National Forest for some backcountry camping in the truck. I have already picked up the camp kitchen and spare tire kit, so I believe I'm ready for ADVENTURE!

Hello, Rivian Forum! I currently own a Mustang Mach E. Will never go back to ICE. But... I really want a truck. And I really love the Rivian, but I need to feel comfortable with two questions before I buy: (1) Is it worth the price? (vs my MME as an example), and (2) What can I expect for a real-world range? I live in eastern Pennsylvania and have family in Ohio. I'd like to be confident knowing the real-world range for an R1T Dual Large or Max on a longer trip averaging 75mph.
So... here I am on the Forum to learn!

Welcome! I can answer the first question from my perspective. Yes. The driving experience and quality of the truck are top-notch in my opinion. I bought my Gen2 R1T Dual Standard in September, and already have about 5000 miles on it. I love it, and am strongly considering trading in our Tesla Model Y for an R1S in the next 6-12 months because we enjoy the Rivian so much.

Range-wise, many others can chime in for the Gen 2 Large and Max pack range they're seeing. I can only say with my Standard pack (LFP), I was getting pretty much spot on the 258 range in September/early October before temps dropped, so I expect nearly that range from May-September (I am up in Maine so the temp fluctuations may be less in PA winter depending on where you're at), and I am seeing about a 10-15% drop on average with below freezing winter temps. Better range loss than our 2023 Model Y LR during winter thus far.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm used to doing the range math with my MME - typically charge to 80 - 85%, never run below 10% - so I'm interested in what that computes to for the R1T. Helps to hear that in moderate temps you can match the EPA numbers. Glad to hear you love yours - can't say I've heard really anything negative about the Rivian (other than no CarPlay...).

We just ordered our R1S yesterday and are looking forward to delivery. This is our first EV though I have driven our kids Tesla model S’s and Y’s and also the BMW SUV whatever it’s called (a hard pass on that thing) quite a bit when visiting them. After researching chargers, I’m about to pull the trigger on the AUTEL AC Elite Home 50A 12kW charger.

Happy to be in this community and looking forward to delivery whenever that will be. After we secured our order the app says February 2025 to January 2026 delivery range, the order process said 8 to 12 weeks and the test drive representative said one to four weeks so…..?

Other vehicles in our portfolio are a 2011 Ford F150, a 1975 Beechcraft Bonanza F33A with pretty much every upgrade possible and a 2005 Vespa; last year that it was manufactured with a clutch.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new R1S. Which version did you get?

As for chargers, whatever you get, I'd suggest getting one that can provide 48 amps continuously. This will necessitate being hardwired into your panel. The Tesla wall charger is an excellent option too. I use it with my Rivian and Teslas. With more and more EVs going to the NACS port, it might come in handy in the future.

Faster will be better if you drive much given the low efficiency (compared to most Teslas). On a 48 amp charger, I add about 8% per hour back to the battery. So about 20-22 mphr (miles per hour of range). Less if I am flying low.

Love the Bonanza. It is shocking how much planes have increased in cost during my lifetime. My first plane cost under 20k. I don't fly enough to make it worthwhile any more given the cost of a hangar, annuals, etc. I did pick up a powered paraglider (PPG) which I can keep in my garage and still enjoy getting up into the air when time permits.

We chose the Dual Max (410 range), sound and vision package, spare tire air compressor. It is always a pleasure to meet another pilot. My wife always says, you can have 50 people in a room and after about 30 minutes if there are any pilots they will find each other. For everyone else in this forum in case you ever wondered how you can always tell if someone is a pilot…They’ll tell You.?

Given the max pack, absolutely make sure you can deliver 48 amps to it continuously. This will not be a pack you can fill 7-8 hours if it is very low and you need to get it to a high state of charge (SoC) for a long trip. You are going to be closer to the 7% charging rate per hour.

On the plus side, you don't live in a very cold area so you won't waste a lot of time heating the pack before you can add at your max charging rate. It was cold enough here in Texas that my truck spen the first hour just heating the pack up so it could charge at a decent rate. I was on our 40 amp charger and it took 2 hours to raise the SoC from 55->60%.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to say hey! I’ve owned a Model 3 Performance since 2019. With my recent move to the Shenandoah Valley, I’m doing some research for my next EV which will be a pickup or SUV. I have R2 and Scout reservations but don’t know if I can wait. The snow has been crazy! Looking at a lot of different R1Ts but mainly Gen 1 quads or Gen 2 standards. I have a R1T overnight demo scheduled later this week. I’ll report back!

Welcome to the forum. If you like the performance of your M3P, buy the G1 quad. Otherwise you'll think you are driving an MYLR when it comes to performance. My R1T is quicker than my M3LR w/boost and just a bit slower than my Highlander 3 performance and handles amazingly well for a truck.

I never thought I'd say a 7k pound vehicle was "tossable" but it is. Also the quad gives you all kinds of fun drive modes to play with. Not as much flexibility as track mode on my Plaid or Highland 3 performance, but a lot of fun when you put it in drift mode.

I’ve heard the performance of the Gen 1 quads are impressive. My 3P will be staying with me. I’ve outfitted some suspension goodies and love taking it on the BRP and Skyline Drive. Not really looking for anything quick. Just need something more capable of varying terrains. Even with a dedicated winter set, my low rise height hinders travel. My role in my company requires me to travel 140-200 miles daily so an EV has always made more sense. I am leaning more towards a Gen 1 quads vs a Gen 2 standard since I’ve heard the LFP performs poorly in cold weather.
