Thank you - that is exactly what I needed to know. I'll reach out and see if the '23 is still available. It is even in my favorite color - forest green.

I own a LA Silver, but the Forest Green is my second favorite color. My personal favorite is the Canyon Red.

Sidenote: I was thinking about upgrading to the new Quad Motor G2 when they come out. The purple paint they have an option for is, in my opinion, the best color their is for one of these.

I have since decided against it, for personal reasons.

What @TollKeeper said is right on point. I had debated between a used Gen 1 and a new Gen 2. The incredible value of a used Gen 1 quad was too tempting to pass up. A lof ot the factory tires seem to get noisy about half way through their lifespan or toward the end. Just swap them out for something else later. I had 21's and 20's on my Gen 1 quad R1T and the 20's do ride better.

I had completely forgotten about the tires... Yes the tires are a huge deal, for me, on these. The OEM Pirelli's are, to put it mildly, JUNK. Noisy, poor life span, and not the overall best for traction. I have 14k miles on mine, and I should have replaced them at the start of winter. I didnt, but they will be replaced at some point this year. Just waiting for the right deal to come along.

Most have been replacing with a few different options. Most seem to be going with either the Continental TerrainContact HL or AT, or the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

Depending on our usage, the Goodyear Territory AT's are good option if going with a 20". I hated my Pirellis too. Here is a thread I started about the Goodyears and if you are a USAA member, you can get a 25% discount currently. That makes them basically buy 3 get 1 free and can have a set of tires for under a grand.

Welcome, Pat! You can find used Rivians on all the usual online sellers, but you can also buy pre-owned directly from Rivian. Just to be sure that is available in NC I used a Charlotte zip and sure enough a whole bunch of options came up. Prices aren’t bad IMO depending on what you want.

Something that helped me search a lot of sites quickly is autotempest.com. It saved me lots of time and thousands of dollars.

As mentioned, a used Rivian from Rivian is an option. If I went that route, I would have spent at least an extra 10k for a similar truck. I just checked for the heck of it, and for a truck with similar miles to what I bought, and 6 months later, they still want $8k more for a similarly spec'd truck. So if you are looking for the best price for a used one, through Rivian likely won't be your best option.

Be aware of the different warranties depending on number of motors and battery pack size. Longest warranty is for a quad motor one.

Howdy, just joining up - I put in a reservation for an R2 last week.

I currently own a Tesla Model Y and really love the car - but.... well, you know. Actually, I'm less concerned about all of the political nonsense surrounding Tesla than I am about the fact that when I need to replace my car in a couple of years, the MY platform will be over 10 years old and there doesn't seem to be any plan to do anything beyond the recent refresh. I've always liked the look of the Rivians but the R1S is much bigger than I need and way more $$ than I want to spend. The R2 being similar in size to the MY is my sweet spot. Hopefully they can stick close to the $45k starting price. Native NACS charging is a must for me, so seeing that the R2 is planned to have this is great.

Hello all,

New Rivian R1S Trimotor owner about 250 miles in and based in Connecticut. Thought I would introduce myself. I had been eyeing the RS1 for about a year. Rented a first gen for about a week last summer through Turo and got hooked. Finally took the plunge about two weeks ago. Been loving learning about my R1S. Thank you all for the great info I have found on this site. Very helpful to a newbie like me. Would welcome any recommendations of must dos and must haves. Also, if anyone has any recommendations for beginner off-road locations in CT/New England area, would appreciate it. Heading up to Burlington, VT in a few weeks. Looking forward to seeing you on the road!

Hiya, longtime motorcyclist here. I’ve placed reservations on the new Rivian R2. I’ve driven a few ev’s and my wife currently owns a Tesla Model 3. We use it as our only car. Great car but it’s a political hot potato with its own ceo being an ultimate turd.

I‘ve test drove an R1S tri-motor. What a SUV! Wow, nice. Strangely enough, I can feel its weight. Nevertheless, I like it a lot. Anyway, I am now having reservation about my reservation of the R2. No rear seating‘s fold flat feature!! Umm, for realz!

I’ll look for specific subject within this forum to voice my complaints.

the passenger 2nd row seats do fold flat
at the original R2 reveal the front seats were shown to fold but this will not make it into the production models (because of federal safety regulations)

OOoOOooooOOoooOO , I’ve misread… very… badly. Okay, nevermind, not reconsidering anymore. I can’t wait.

Anyhoo, I did, when Rivian surveyed future R2 owners, suggested that they offer metal roof option, hopefully that’ll make the R2 a bit cheaper. I don’t really need a glass roof top. I am planning to put in a flat roof cargo so I can carry my crash pads and other things. (Yes, I am a rock climber as well.)

Welcome. What do you like to ride? Looks like a Triumph Scrambler in your profile. Bikes are probably my first love with cars/trucks second.

I ride a 2018 Triumph Street Scrambler as well as a 2018 Triumph Street Triple 765RS.

The Scrambler have a different camshaft for better response and higher speed. I got the camshaft from TecBike of UK. One don’t need to do that anymore if one have a 2019 to now. Open exhaust pipe (no catalytic converter) to Zard Mufflers. Sweet sounding. I used it a lot in the city and on twisty bumpy goat roads in the mountains.

I use my Striple for fast riding on smooth backroads around the mountains of SF Bay Area. Heh.

I don’t like cars at all. I like SUV for going camping, climbing, and the outdoors. The only car I like are the Driver’s car. ;-)

I’ve been eyeing different location in Europe where there are lot of pedestrian friendly cities and town. Here in the USA, it’s very car-centric. Hardly a few pedestrian friendly cities and towns. You know what I am trying to say. At least, I live in SF and we pretty much walk a lot but not as much as in Europe.

Cool. I've had a few Triumphs. Currently have the latest Gen Rocket 3R. Here is one of the offroad capable bikes I have.

Here it's street going bigger brother before I did some other mods like saddlebags and a fishtail exhaust, larger headlight and a few other things.

I ride almost every day I can.

As for Europe, I can relate. I lived there for a while. Don't mind walking when the weather is good but would ride my folding bike the most when there if the metro didn't make more sense and I'd take the bike on the metro anyway.
