Yep. I placed my F-150 Lightning reservation *DURING* the launch event, within an hour of the reservation website going live.

I didn't even get my "invite to order" until after multiple people I know received their trucks who placed reservations months after I did.

legacy dealer system is far worse in this regards... because it all depends on each dealer's allocation for the given 'wave' of orders and even at each dealer, they have to balance between preorders and their own stock for the walk ins... and even pre orders are prioritized based on customer royalty... if you are repeat customer and/or willing to pay the markups, you move up the list. I too have ordered within minutes of reservation going live, never got invited to order, never gotten any response from the dealer untill I submit cancelation late last year. I believe I picked a wrong dealer.
