So what’s the story here? I have searched the forums for anything discussing the $1,500 Front Paint Protection option when ordering a rivian. I check the rReady to Go shop all the time and they rarely have it as an option on the trucks in inventory? I just did a search with it included and only 6 R1Ts in the entire shop have it as part of the order. So what’s the verdict? Is the Front Paint Protection not legit? Or does it change the paint appearance? I feel like I must be missing something, for only $1,500 it just seems like every single vehicle should have it added to their order.

I think PPF at the factory level is still being done by an outside vendor. This adds time that cars have to sit around not be sold. Also, the material is great, but the application is pre-cut and does not wrap corners. That is frowned upon in the PPF world, because it may not last as long or look as good? Personally, I'm looking to protect the front from chips, and I'm less concerned about the wrapped corners. Who knows...

Thanks! I looked around and found some reviews, you’re right and it looks like the PPF from Rivian is pretty bad. I probably will be looking to remove from my order.

I think it’s fine it’s just too expensive for what you get. Xpel is awesome and, yes, wrapping it over edges is definitely preferred, but it’s overpriced from Rivian - at least compared to my local vendors who charge about $1,200 for the same coverage areas and do wrap over edges/corners.

It’s perfect, I used Xpel Dallas to do the rivian agreed $1500 after getting the truck, recently got a dent in the hood, the PDR guy fixed it and said I couldn’t even tell there was PDR until I got started. The pdr has a very tiny wrinkle now but paints perfect and the PDR can stay on for longer no need to replace. Also, checked the price for just the hood $600 to replace just that piece. If I can get 3 years out of it, I’ll prob end up switching to expel stealth full truck bc the wife says she likes the matte color and I didn’t think she would

If anyone who has ordered factory PPF from Rivian could actually post some pictures, that would be great.

Maybe I missed them in the forum if they have already been posted.

I got my R1T on February 16th and have the factory PPF. I forget it’s there and from what little I know about PPF in general, it seems like it’s applied perfectly to me. And no it doesn’t wrap the corners. But you know what, its a factory option so covered under warranty if anything happens to it.

I wanted all edges wrapped that’s why no expel pattern, also ppf with ceramic built in
No wash one week
Let truck set at least 24 hours before driving as mine was redone under warranty.

I found this thread very interesting as I'm currently waiting on my S, it's getting a bit late, and I believe the reason is that I ordered FPP. However based on this thread, i'm still not sure if it makes sense to have Rivian do it or a 3rd party.

Pro Rivian PPT:
1) Factory applied, therefore covered by warranty.
2) Simple, part of my order

Con Rivian PPT
1) Doesn't cover the corners well.
2) There's better material out there. (Which material does Rivian use?)

Does this sum up the issue?
