There are MAJOR differences between these Rivian MIFARE DESfire cards and ones used for hotel chains, which are often simple (unencrypted) NFC or RFID cards like the MIFARE classic.

For many hotels, however some hotels are using DESfire now - EV3 cards are around a dollar each when bought in bulk.
