Key Fob Proximity

I didn't think the key fob had proximity capabilities yet, but I had the strangest experience today. I was in my backyard and open up the sliding door and as soon as I came through the door the vehicle in the garage unlocked and the lights turned on. I was about 50 ft from the vehicle.

All I have on me is the key fob. This is a loaner vehicle and I do not have the phone key or Bluetooth paired to the vehicle.

Maybe since this is a Rivian service vehicle it has different software on it that has this functionality?

The fob is suppose to get proximity features in the future. It uses Bluetooth communication so it's possible to do.

This has been confirmed by a Rivian tech working with Reddit.

Can you check the software version? It would surprise me to have them loaning out vehicles with unreleased software but they could.

I tried the same scenario with the fob in my hands. The truck woke up and lights turned on, but doors did not unlock this time. Very strange.

I use a PAAK and I to have noticed my truck fails to lock when the fob is inside but it doesn’t unlock it nearby. It’s weird.

Anybody else having their vehicle wake when walking up to it with the key fob?

I just walked into the garage and the headlights turned on. Nothing else happened. Vehicle remained locked.

Yes, my R1T flashes the brake lights if I approach with only the fob (no phone). It doesn’t unlock, but it obviously “sees” the fob.

I noticed the flashing happens frequently and it even starts making noises. But this loaner vehicle is turning on the full blown headlights when you approach or sometimes unlocks the vehicle. It's very inconsistent.
