Up front info. I was sent this camera for free for my honest review because I have beta tested other cameras in the past. TLDR: Best dash camera I've tried. Read on for the details.
We travel a long distance between two homes often so a dash camera with security features is very important to us. We travel in a G2 R1S which has a great security/camera system but it doesnāt give alerts if somebody is messing with your vehicle or worse vandalizing it because they donāt like EVs.
The @LAMTTO camera is a two channel 4G LTE camera and itās very configureable. The video is 1080p in the high definition setting and is very clear and detailed. The standard definition mode also looks pretty good. It has GPS built in which embeds in the videos. It mounts easily to the windshield with the included 3M windshield mount. On our R1S I mounted it to the rear view mirror cowling. The camera can be easily removed and stowed away. It comes with an OBDII power cable which is long enough to tuck the wires in the headliner and then down the A-pillar of our R1S. I have been testing it with a lithium power brick and it just sips power so I donāt think it will deplete the battery in a non-EV. I believe it has voltage protection if thatās a concern. It also has schedule recording options so you can tell it not to record when itās parked in your garage for the night. It will use a lot less power in this mode.
This camera separates itself from the others with its video triggers. It has motion detection, vibration/shock detection, vehicle start detection and event detection. Event videos are triggered when both motion and shock happen at the same time (think car accident or evasive maneuvers). The video trigger notifications appear instantly on my iPhone and Apple Watch. The camera also has night vision which is very clear.
After the initial 7 day free trail an unlimited data plan is required and an optional cloud storage plan if you want the videos accessible when the camera isnāt powered. These plans are reasonable priced and there are many options available. We will definitely be subscribing to both to protect our vehicle and its contents when traveling.
Once of my favorite features of this camera is the ability to see real time video of the interior of our car. Our dog always travels with us in the back seats and we often have to leave her in the car for an hour or so. Rivian hasnāt enabled its interior camera for live viewing at this point so the Lamttoās interior camera works perfect to keep an eye on her.
Two way communication is also a feature in the app and the microphone and speaker is easily muted. There is a privacy mode button that disables the interior camera and also a button that immediately saves looped video to the SD/TF card and the Cloud.
The motion (radar) and shock (g-sensor) detection is very configurable to reduce false triggers. You can have different settings for driving and when parked.
I honestly canāt think of a single feature this camera doesnāt have other than a rear camera (third channel). I think three channel systems are overkill, hard to install and too complicated. In my testing this camera detected motion at the rear of our R1S every time. The interior camera on the Lamtto will give you what you need for evidence if you are rear ended.
Only feature I wish this camera had was the ability to delete individual videos from the SD/TF card using the app. Iām sure they will add this feature through a firmware update. You can format the card using the app which will delete all videos. Downloading videos through the app is easy so Iāll just save what I need/want and format the card before each trip. I also wish it had the ability to turn down the alert volume on the camera and they can probably easily add that with a firmware update.
For $85 itās hard to believe this camera has all of these features. I paid more for our Garmin Mini 2 which is a joke of a camera compared to the Lamtto.
Feel free to ask any questions. This camera will be permanently installed in our R1S for our road trips.
