I was/am one of those angry people. I got the order to invite a couple days before our (SO and I) decided "cutoff point" (where we give up on Rivian and go with the Subaru Trailseeker). Then our trade-in value dropped $600 between the time I ordered, and the time I could lock in the trade-in amount (delivery scheduled). So we're still a little upset about losing out on that $600 from having to wait so long.
And yes, day 1 reservation within the first 15-30 mins... thought that would help. Had Rivian waited even a little longer, they would've lost a customer. I feel like I was pretty patient for somebody losing trade-in value as time went on.

I checked my 2022 gen R1T trade in value mid July and checked again when I got my invite to order on August 18th. Rivian dropped the value of my truck $3400 in 4 weeks. I only drove it about 800 miles during that time period. So, I sold it to Carvana that weekend for just $200 shy of the original trade in value. I didn’t want to roll the dice on what the value would be by the time I take delivery.

I was a Day 1 reservation holder and had the same August-September projection from Rivian. I received Early Access email invite for Coastal Cloud interior Aug. 18 and paired it with Catalina Cove. Got my VIN on Tuesday. Don't know your configuration @johntesi, but I'd say your email asking for $400 deposit to complete pre-order will come Tuesday. Keep the faith!

Where are you seeing an official list of every single person ordering that lists all the factors that were considered for their placement?

When the reports started coming in for this site's list, which is anecdotal self-reporting at best, the vast majority were people who reserved in early 2024. The people who made recent reservations being converted into orders were few and far between. And Rivian has been clear that they are mixing it up, and that they intended to do so from the start.

My point was the way he wrote it made it sound like Rivian was flailing around randomly changing the criterion. I didn’t sign up until April, and followed what they announced. By June it was clear, and you can’t possibly think that was a snap decision. Right?

Wait...what? Was I "bitch slapped"? I genuinely hadn't noticed...

I do not recall writing any punch list of R2 reservation selection criteria either... The only responses @Zathras made to posts of mine (that I remember) were regarding a failed joke comparing Rivian execs to Punxsutawney Phil (which apparently nobody got, so I left it alone. After all, jokes do not get funnier when explained), and my dissatisfaction to losing trade-in value while I was made to wait to order despite my early reservation.

I do appreciate your post @AlanR2. I see it as defending the forum members that you feel have been unjustly attacked. I just failed to see both the attack itself and the post that was attacked.

Also, as a general rule of mine, if I receive any responses that appear like personal attacks, I do not respond. I heed the saying "Don't feed the trolls".

I also try to remember that everybody has a different knowledge and experience base than I do. So even if somebody does not agree with a comment/statement of mine, they have that right.

Your point is well taken @Zathras. My recollection of March 7, 2024, was Rivian saying "be the first in line to get an R2 when they become available," which I completely support them on. We'll, over time, we came to learn that selection is based upon more than your resevation time stamp. That is when the fun began on this site (and others) hypothesizing the algorithm selection criteria. I say fun because it has been interesting and entertaining trying to figure out how Rivian was going to pick the R2 winners. In fact, it became a cottage industry within our ecosystem. Many have Day 1 (or early) time stamps that haven't gotten an invite to order or have received delivery dates farther back than some have, and they have understandably been lamenting and venting their plight even though it looks like Rivian has created a seemingly fair and understandable system. I won the lottery and should have my R2 by the end of next month (with the light interior). Rather than admonishing the butt hurt--and, trust me, I thought about doing that--I have tried to keep my R2 reservation "brothers and sisters" who have not been as fortunate from taking their toys and going home. After all, we are all in the hope business until we get the R2.

I'll just leave this here. Note that the first two bars on this chart are severely clipped due to the huge initial response. The self-reported order-conversion rate for later reservations seems in line to me with the shuffling strategies Rivian said they would be using.

I see waiting for the invite as a plus and a minus.
The minus falls in the same area as others have mentioned, about losing trade-in value while waiting. Not only the age of my trade, but also the mileage being added every day while I use it. The idea that I could be involved in an accident while waiting adds to that dilemma also. In my state, I could save money on sales tax by trading in because the difference in what would be paid over that is the amount that would be taxed. I will look at offers from dealers and places like Carvana, etc to compare to see if it would be worth the hassle too.
On the plus side, new owners are already providing feedback on issues that are getting resolved, so I may not have to deal with those when my number is finally drawn.
