Newbie to PPF but I must've watched most of the available Youtube videos on the topic and gotten quotes from most of the OC and surrounding area installers. Ultimately went with STEK and a good friend's referral for installation, a small outfit named Advanced Protective Films in Fountain Valley, CA (though they are moving to larger facility in Santa Ana in a few weeks). He wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive, but he was definitely the most detail-oriented. One outfit told me they would likely break the stock emblems on removal and told me to purchase replacements ahead of time. That sounded like a red flag to me.
The owner, Alex, is super responsive and works on every car himself. Absolutely meticulous. The car was dropped off Monday late morning and available for pickup Thursday afternoon. Pretty quick turnaround as I was expecting it to take a whole week. At dropoff, he had just finished a blue Model Y and at pickup, he had started working on a black Model Y. There was supposed to be another Rivian R1S (El Cap Grainte) right after mine but apparently STEK had trouble replenishing DYNOmatte inventory so that R1S was postponed. I believe mine was the first R1S he did. He's done a few R1Ts already.
I had all the Limestone painted pieces wrapped with STEK DYNOmatte. For the glossy black A pillars, portion above windshield, lights and the front bumper, those were wrapped with glossy STEK DYNOShield. He sent videos/photos throughout the process and called out various small dents and nicks I had missed during my pickup inspection. He even cut two extra film pieces for me since I'll have to remove the PPF he just put on in two areas for my service appointment in October.
I've seen some matte Limestone R1S photos posted in this forum but never saw photos of them in direct sunlight. In case you are wondering how that looks, I've attached a few photos of the finished product. Left it debadged for the time being. Hoping Abstract Ocean's black R1S emblems come in stock soon!
