Loading contacts

Is it normal for it to load my phone's contacts for quite a while every time I get in? I like to call my buddy every Tuesday to let him know I'm leaving for the track and I'm several miles away from home by the time I can get to my recent calls list which, BTW, is always an extra tap to get to. More 1st world problems.
