The same thing happened to me the first couple times. However, I realized that if you just use your fingers on one side of the phone to apply pressure to the mat and then use your thumb to lift the other side of the phone, it will pop right off.
In other words, lift the phones at the same time that you’re putting pressure down on charging mat.
If it’s still an issue for you, you could try some double sided 3M tape on the underside.
