Adopt a cat, I'm not kidding. Make it a nice home in the garage
Had a mouse problem until a cat wondered over from the neighbors farm. We give him food and a warm place to sleep outside, he murders anything (mice, chipmunks, voles, ermine, etc.) that fits in his mouth. Seems like a fair trade to me.

We don’t do poison as well, hence the electric shock for mouse/mice. Cleanest method- no blood, no poison. So far I haven’t see any other animal getting killed in the trap.

I am tempted to go with the grid guard, but haven't pulled the trigger. @Count Orlok has used them to good results last I heard.
it has been worth it. circumscribed the old cars and nary a problem last winter.

I've also used peppermint essential oils on my ATV (20 drops of essential oil in 16 oz of water with a tablespoon of dish detergent to act as a surfactant / you can buy premixed online). Spray and coat plastics and wiring, and also the tires on both sides. Do the tires since this is normally the way the mice climb onto the vehicle.

I've never tried these tiles but they are supposed to work wonders if you have the budget. https://thegridguard.com/
Hmm this looks interesting but how would you charge the vehicle? I would think the mice would use the charging cable from the wall to cross over the barrier.

That's a good question. I don't have any idea since I haven't used them myself, but I first heard about them here and did some additional reading... I have yet to read any truly negative reviews of them. I'm sure nothing is 100% effective. ?‍♂

Have you looked at sealing your garage to keep them out?

We live in the woods Mice have always
been my problem in our vehicles. But the damage they are doing to the Rivian wiring
is off the charts. I may have to build a moat of stainless steel that I drive into tostopthem from getting in. We are using poison traps and scent bags in the vehicle but we have to stop this .
Any one else with this problem? Im looking for good advice
Nick

We used to have that issue with both ice vehicles. I have used these for years and they have kept the rats out of the engine compartment for us. They are meant to wire up to 12 volts, and you would probably need two for the R1(front and back). Instead, I wired one to a transformer and mounted it to the ground facing up. So far no issues after 14 months.

I have one of these on the driveway as a backup.

Thanks for all the good advice. It is much needed as I’m at $4600 and counting on the damage for this repair of Mice electrical damage. We have an open garage in the woods so it is impossible to seal or use a cat outdoor cats do not survive where we live on the date of Shenandoah national park .
we have ordered the flip mouse catcher and the metal grid to put under the tires plus we will use scent bags around the wires.
Thanks again for the thoughtful responses
Nick

My solution, which has been working so far, is a combination of permanent and flashing lights on a furniture dolly that i scoot under the truck in the garage (barn).

Has anyone used steelwool to close up the entrypoint(s). I have used this with success on my previous cars. If so, where are the access points mice enter through?
