Yeah, the Smart is just an ICE car with a battery and motor slapped in. Nothing really done to make it a real EV or optimize anything. My brother has two of them, and is probably going to get another. He's been fixing them because the BMS/charging is a stupid proprietary mess. He just brought back a dead one that Mercedes said would cost $8k-15k to fix. His out of pocket? $8 plus whatever some tubes of sealant and tape cost.
