Mirror bug

About 50% of the time when I get into my `25 R1T dual Max (with the phone / bluetooth) I hear an unusual locking noise (not standard day / night, not jingle bell, etc) and my mirrors retract. The mirrors will remain retracted despite the fact that I am buckling up, putting the car into drive and pulling out of my parking spot. Finally, when I get to about 20 mph they will fold back out. This is definetely a major bug that I am sure the NHTSA would not be happy about, and I can't imagine that I am the only one that this is seeing this. I have had the issue for the last 3 software releases, so is this a hardware issue and not software?

I am under the impression that this is working as designed....as in mirrors unfold as you start to drive...(Go above a certain speed)

Sounds like you have auto fold set. Check your mirror settings.

I do have auto fold set! But, that's not how auto fold is supposed to work... The mirrors correctly fold in when I park and lock the car, and unfold when I unlock the car. They are re-folding when I am in the car and putting the car in drive.

This is not a safety issue, and also not completely unheard of. Some vehicles have speed-related autofold, and/or location-based. A Tesla can be told to keep the mirrors folded at home, for example, so they wouldn't unfold until you drive away. I don't have a Gen 2 so I can't say what your settings might be. You should review them.

The car has been reset many times - for a variety of reasons. The auto fold is not working correctly because it is not working consistently the same way each drive. Either the mirrors should unfold and stay out when I unlock the car (which I would prefer) or they should unfold at a specific speed. The car should not randomly decide what it is going to do with my mirrors each time I get in the car and go for a drive.

I can see why that would be annoying.

If you turn off auto fold do the mirrors remain extended and not exhibit this behavior?

When it happens do the mirrors unfold when you manually select them to and remain that way afterwards? If so it’s an annoyance but definitely not a safety problem for the NHTSA.
