It would be interesting to see how many reservation holders opted for the Launch Edition vs the versions/options that become available in January 2022.

Its important to note there are no orders yet. We moved from reservations to non-binding configurations but still a long way away from actual orders

You might find some of the info you're looking for on this poll:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...people-end-up-configuring-their-vehicles.820/
Thanks for the link. I had not seen that poll.

I am still curious about the LE version split between R1S and R1T. I believe that the R1S is their sleeper vehicle and is more popular than many perceive and the 400+ battery in R1T not being available until 2022, will increase the percentage of R1S LEs. (This might be supported by the possible sell out of R1S LEs already).

Not just that, there is nothing in the market quite like the R1S. EV with decent range, off road capable and big interior.

I completely agree. That is why I referred to it as their "sleeper" vehicle.

We are about to celebrate our 5th anniversary of owning a Model X. While the X is great, the R1S is everything the X is, plus a whole lot more.

I expect my delivery well after Jan 22 because I want the removable roof. They are stating mid 2022 for that option.

There is limited data, but so far it shows 25% of the R1T deposits are skipping the LE and opting for the other options that deliver later in 2022. The R1S does not show anyone waiting. Is this because the R1S does not have a date for the larger battery?

... Where are you getting that data...?

The poll here where 7 out of 28 R1Ts are waiting until 2022.
Ah I completely misread - I thought the claim was "25% of R1T deposits wanted an LE and couldn't get one"

Re-reading, I have no idea why I thought that ?

No, it is because the R1S doesn't have the option to choose a larger battery back. I am waiting for official range numbers and the date/price/range of a larger battery pack.

On another forum there is a log of preorders. That data is very similar to this poll:

About 23% of R1T preorders have opted to wait for the 400mi battery (22% here and 24% on the other forum)

About 40% of preorders are for the R1S (38% here and 42% on the other forum)

About 8% of R1S preorders have opted for options that delay delivery (8% in both forums)

On average, that equates to about 17% of the people in line ahead of you are opting to wait for options that become available in January 2022. Of course, that is what people say today based upon what they know today, so who knows what the future holds.

Still too early to predict.
Likely the only way to get an LE was to configure one this week, so many did to keep their options open (I did this). No actual commitment and the configuration can be changed later if you want.

If, on the other hand, you did not configure a Launch edition, Rivian is stating (or at least implying) that you will not be able to do so later.

My ideal vehicle is an "Explorer" with some, but not all, of the "Adventure" features. And a few of the LE features are desirable (the free 20" wheel upgrade as an example), but could price out lower if added to an "Explorer".
Some other options have not been priced/released, and I don't have any clue how many (if any) options added in the "Adventure" package will be available outside of that package.

It is early, but not too early, to see clear trends as much can be gleaned from the data and related comments throughout the threads.

The 17% is not likely to go down, but may increase. The 17% are those that have already decided to opt away from the LE and go for a selection that delivers starting in 2022. The largest chunk of those being people selecting the R1T 400mi+. As you stated, once you skip the LE, you probably can't go LE (with the exception of a possible wait list for cancellations).

Once Rivian provides the details on the R1S large battery (which they have said will be announced around the start of production, which implies that it will not be a part of the LE), I would expect a percentage of R1S buyers to change from an LE to the larger battery, depending upon the details. Under the right circumstances, I would fall into this group as well.

Much time was spent looking as preorder numbers and predicting a production ramp to speculate upon a possible ship date based upon your order #. (Yes, it is an order #). There are several forms of order attrition, this being one of them, that also need to be considered in such a delivery forecast.
