Rivian has committed to an Apple Watch app. Using the watch as the MFA device will make for a better implementation. It will be separate from your phone and a second device and since it’s a wearable far less likely to lose. Plus approval is a simple tap on watch screen. Losing either phone or watch does not lock you out of your car (assuming watch also works as PAAK).

I like this idea. I would use my apple watch. Waakey, a third party watch as a key solution exists now. I wonder if this would work. When Rivian releases their watch solution I’d definitely use MFD in this case.

Why did you need to open the app to approve the MFD request?
Good question. It did not pop up when I unlocked the phone. I checked the notification list, and there was nothing there. So I opened the Rivian app. Still no pop up until I did the "drag" down and exposed the part above the image of the truck. Then the window popped up and I pressed the button to drive.

And, what happened to being able to use a watch?
I received and responded to the push notification on my watch and it works. I didn’t need to use my phone. I probably didn’t pay attention the first time because I was so focused on my phone.

So, it works, BUT.…. It still needs the phone to be present. It’s nice that you may not have to fetch your phone out of your pocket - but, no phone, no worky. The watch communicates back and forth with the iPhone. The iPhone does the heavy lifting. The Apple Watch doesn’t do much on its own. Try turning off your phone and see how well the watch works. It can’t unlock doors, lock doors, or anything else. The chain is broken when the phone gets disconnected.

Of course it won’t work without the phone. We don’t have watch key support from Rivian, but WaaK/WatchMyRivian are third-party watch solutions that can be configured as keys, without your phone.

I always have my phone anyway so if I wanted to use this feature I now know I don’t need to pull out.

I have the same issue. My rivian app will not pop any notification (iOS). I checked the apps notification settings, reinstalled the app. I do get live activity for charging etc, but notifications don't pop at all (for example disabling bluetooth should pop a warning notification etc). Therefore i have toopen the app manually to accept MFD and cant use watch.

I notice also this popup no longer appears when you close the mobile app.

Since it may matter, I am using an Android phone: Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The pop up has consistently not worked until I open the app. I have not had to force the pop-up (recently) by dragging down the app, but I have to open the app to get the pop-up window so I can confirm the drive.

I still prefer this to entering a code on the screen. Unless the code is easy to enter, like 121212, or 111111, it would be more painful than what I am doing. IMO, anyway. I wish the pop-up window worked like it did the first time I tried it, but it isn't that bad. I really, really like the extra security.

I turned on MFA, and other than being a minor inconvenience of having to open the app once I am in the truck, it seems fine.
Note to the software developers: Any chance, much like with Gear Guard, if the truck is parked at the HOME location, can MFA be automatically disabled? Only have it come on when away from the house? Just a suggestion.

Not sure if this has been addressed but how difficult is it to steal an EV? Just curious.

I really don’t understand the complaints about this. Rivian is offering you additional security IF you want it. You don’t have to use this feature if you don’t want to. Rivians are not being stolen, so you can freely choose to use it or not.
Don't let the "rivian needs carplay" folks read this

It is no more difficult than an ICE vehicle, especially if it uses 'keyless' entry which is highly susceptible to replay attacks. With the right hardware, it can be done in seconds, even from across the globe.

The vehicle is susceptible to replay attacks at home as well. Often, home is where you are targeted, and I feel MFD would be more useful there than anywhere else.
